I have a .45 pac nor on a 700ml that a .451 bullet will slip right down. That is loose for a pac nor. I knurl the 195 barnes up to .402 or so and no problem with the harvester light blue. It shoots great. I've got another one that is much tighter and will shoot un-knurled bullets very well. I give them a light knurl anyway. I've never seen where it hurts anything.

Brownells has has a Shotgun Wad Solvent and a Sabot Solvent . I have used both and both work equally as well . Chris I agree. Shotgun barrels will look clean with normal powder solvent cleaning. Run a wad solvent in the same “cleaned “ barrel and ouila! Sabots can do the same. Plastic fouling. My2cts.

Man I've never saw or heard of that. Looks like adding a wad as thelongrider said might be a simple fix. I found wool wads at Pittman Bullets. Read that people glue them to the bass of wads or bullets.

I used to use 5744 and had sabot issues. I'm old and my memory is bad, but I think that is why I switched to slower burning H4198 about 7 or 8 years ago and I haven't had sabot issues since. I use 60 grains H4198 in 45/70 conversion and 62 in 2 Pacnors with no problems, all with LBH and 195 Barnes. Does this make sense?

Yes, those sabots are drilled not blown like strands. I believe it may be either the bevel on the base of the bullet or try putting a micrometer on some of your bullets, I'd bet some mic out @ .399 and others @.400 as Edge has stated loose bullets will cause the drilling. Years ago before I learned about knurling with files I had used cigarette rolling papers wrapped around a bullet then placed in the sabot to aid in accuracy. Fatten those bullets up and the problems might be history.

Back in the day, chuckle, it was discovered the base radius of the 200SST was changed that produced less flat area for sabot support. Just happen to have a sample of each. Don't remember if a solution was ever reached to reduce the affect of having a smaller base surface area. So I checked my bullets and realized I have two different bases. What issues was this causing? Not sure this was my issue but I will keep an eye on it.

Sabot drilling. The one with the smaller flat surface area would often drill sabots.

I had the same problem with those small base Barnes. Picked up some with the big base from Luke. Problem solved
