Anyone here use a decoy when deer hunting ? I hunt a place in Ohio where I think a decoy may work for me but I just haven't tried it yet. I would like to hear about the kind of results members here have had while using one, and if there are certain times they seem to work best.

From my experience does can’t stand them. So if you have a lot does in your area be prepared. With that being said I have had a lot of fun and success with using decoys. Like everything else there a lot to learn when using them. Also have to figure in packing them in and out each hunt, set up time, scent control, and always use some scent(buck or doe) on or around the ground. I set mine up quartering towards me to what direction I want the buck to present me a shot with the wind direction always in mind.
The chasing early tending phase of the rut is when it works best. I’ve had bucks chasing does stop and come over to face off with the intruder. Later in rut a bedded doe with a buck standing beside her out in an open field will bring any buck in that can see it.

I agree with gent above, but will add if you have a high doe to buck ratio no decoy will work. Reason doe’s spook around a doe decoy is they know every other doe or family grouping. Remember set the decoy in accordance with wind and type buck will approach doe from the rear and a buck head to head

My son bought me one of these “blow up” Miss November decoys as a joke one year. Well I’ll tell you I have had just about every deer that has seen it come to it and many times the circle it and bolt a few yards away and come back again sniffing the hell out of it . It fools them long enough and even takes a bucks attention away from you .
I stick mine inside a small ground blind at night .
Works great don’t tell too many people about this trick . We’re going to try a pair of them next year .

Opinions on the effectiveness of deer decoys vary amongst hunters. Some swear by them, while others find them less successful. Research suggests they can be moderately effective in attracting deer, particularly bucks, but results depend on various factors.
