Every Fall I check my hunting apparel and for many years stopped at an old small game hunting vest that brings back some fond memories. It carried a lot of rabbits, pheasants and grouse. Some years back it started to become mandatory to wear fluorescent orange and this tan vest was no longer legal. For a long time it just sat in the closet. Then a few years back I made a decision to bring this vest to life by grafting. Sewing workmanship is not the best but functional. Now an old friend can still join me again when the opportunity presents itself. Ed

My Dad did the same thing with his hunting coat when hunter orange became mandatory here in New Jersey in about 1974 . I still have the coat with the Star Rod & Gun Club buttons on it from the early 60s .

Good gear is hard to find. Keeping it alive is not only smart but cool. Looking at it and remembering good days adds to the memories of good times. Filler up.

Added Note
There will be in a way another old friend joining me on my final hunts. A best friend and mentor passed away 6-years ago. In his later years he used an older Browning Citori, 20ga, over/under that I inherited. It needed some work and a good cleaning. It too will see some life again when it accompanies my vest, hunting small game. Hopefully I live long enough to enjoy memories of new adventures with old friends.
