Hey guys been shooting my new muzzle loader a bit. Everything has been going pretty good. Recently my 209 primers are going in very difficult. They come out hard also even when un shot. Primers have groves cut into them. This hadn't happen for the first 20 shots. Its a rem 700 build in Arrowhead 209 Breech Plug. Using FED primers. Any ideas had to resolve this issue?

I would polish the primer pocket with some fine sandpaper wrapped around a dowel. ASG 209 plugs use to have small primer pockets so you could custom fit your primer of choice. I would go easy so as not to enlarge the hole too much. How did the primers look after the first 20 shots, shiny new or some soot on them? Sounds like you are getting some carbon build up in the pocket.

I suspect you have carbon buildup in the primer pocket.
Most breechplugs need periodic cleaning. I don't know the manufacturing dimensions of your plug, so I can't offer drill bit suggestions for cleaning.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I did use some very fine sand paper on it helped out. I have a Arrowhead 209 Breech Plug. Primers do have some soot on them the last go around for sure. Can't recall if they did right on the start.

Lately, I have been tinkering with rubber o-rings in my 209 breech plug bolt guns, so far, results have been good. I fired 3 fouling primers and took six shots with moderate loads, shiny primers with all 9. This is probably the quickest fix for leaky primer pockets, maybe an option for you. How long the o-rings last, I'm not sure, some break action muzzleloader owners usually report 25-30 shots before replacing the o-ring.
