Howdy First timer on here. Bought a Bergara 45/70 that’s a older conversion through a buddy. Shot one hole for him at a hundred yards. 55gn H4198 with a Harvester sabot and 200gn Hornady SST Had tried using the Winchester primers and they definitely are crap with several failed ignitions. The Federals go bang everytime. Getting it sighted in at a 100 and using a old Leupold non clicking adjustable scope until I order a Burris for it. In the picture the upper right 2 shots and I started adjusting down from there. Shooting off the minivan hood with bags isn’t really conducive to accuracy.

Hoobilly If that is the original 45/70 barrel I'd be careful not to exceed 28K pressure. www.lasc.us/SAAMIMaxPressure.htmFrom what I can tell by reviewing some PT's my estimation is that you around 24-25K. Ed

Ed its a Bergara not a original Encore if thats what you mean? Bull barrel and not a skinny I won't be shooting over 55gn of 4198 so I shouldn't be having any problems. and thanks for the info!

Would lower rings work with that Leupold scope?

Have fun with that Bellm trigger spring kit! I've read that the procedure has been improved since doing mine in the late '90's....hopefully, that's true. Even at that, I suggest getting a large, clear plastic bag to place the action into. If you happen to slip, those springs can go into orbit, and they are close to impossible to find!

Would lower rings work with that Leupold scope? I think so. But I’m gonna go with a smaller optic as 300 yards will be my furthest shot. Get it lower and should be easier for accuracy

I’ve done one so far and didn’t have to find my spring 😆 Hopefully this time I won’t have to search. Big freezer bag sounds like a good move
