Well back in July of 14 i had a Widowmaker about ruin me. Its been a very long slow recovery to this pt. Back then it was all i could do to handle the 31 gr 4759 load i used to deer hunt with. Over the past 4 days or so i have been shooting my NEF conversion to the recoil. 1st shot in this group was 30 gr of VV110, then 31 & 32. Stopped til the next day & shot 33,34, & 35 gr. All 5 shots are in one hole at 25 yds. So today i shot 4759 38 gr & 42 gr aimed at same hole. All 7 are in it even tho i used 2 diff powders. My shoulder held up, so now i will work on heavier powder loads n groups at 100 yds. Here is a pic n i am very happy i could handle the recoil. HLB sabot dry wool wad over powder charge n under the sabot 200 gr XTP bullet. .400 postimg.cc/2q39svRs]

I shot 3 times this morning HLB 200 gr XTP Win. 209 same rifle wad under sabot. 7/53 of VV110 & H4198, next was 7/53 4759 & H4198, last was 7/53 5744 & H4198 all duplex. I handled the recoil fine. As the pic shows all 10 shots in a ragged 1 hole at 25 yds. Now i will start on sabotless loads on recoil n then i will work up an accurate load using one or more of the powders for the 195bx. postimg.cc/HrTw1qRG]

Hope the recovery continues. At 69 years I just don't like the recoil any more. I shoot very conservative loads and work for best accuracy. Have gone UP to the 225 grain boolits mostly. Liking the Hawke, Fury and Pittman offerings. Oh yeah like the 33 gr of N110 under the HSB and the mentioned boolits. Easy good to 2C plus. Plenty range for hearabouts. Moved the Encore conversion couple years ago and now favorite is my Bestill/Omega in 45 Brux. Easy to carry and very accurate for me. Great gun for me old guy or my grandson. Kinda favoring the 200X40 XTP with 31g of N110 for the grandson and I like the 35g of my hoard of 4759 under a 225 Fury star tip. Great accuracy and very modest recoil. Hope you continue recovery and get to a hunting load for this fall. 10

10ga i will be 69 in June. Naw i don't like the hard recoil either, i am just seeing how far i can go. Then back off n be comfortable. I am hoping to go to Idaho next yr to hunt Elk, so i am starting my load prep work now to be ready. I have 2 bullets in mind the 195bx or the 225 Fury Star tip. Both are sabot users, but i found out my Bore was abit ruff n shooting these 230 gr XTP's .451 have been smoothing it along. I hope to get some shots in this morning, starting with 32 gr of 4759 n work up in 2 gr increments

I shot 32 gr. 34 gr. 36 gr. & 38 gr.Judging by the recoil i can handle 40 gr of 4759 if'en needed. So the 5744 is close in burn rate n psi, if'en i need to try it also. I have the H4198 n RL7 to try more of n see how that goes after i have went through the several powders i have been using past week

Goofy Colorado Regs say if your are going to hunt Elk with a Muzzleloader even during the Rifle Season it must be .50 Cal.?

I went & looked, i just don't understand their way of thinking. No sabots allowed in any cal. Says elk must be .50 cal but deer can use .45 cal. Millions of Buffalo's were killed with old ML's of both sized cal's. They are much bigger n tuffer than elk. Actually they show no CF cal. restrictions so a person could hunt using .222 on elk. So i reckon my 45-70 single shot would be the choice. Reckon i will have to use my .50 cal using conicals. This also means i need to work up a sabot-less load fer deer n Pronghorn. I mayhave to call the Game n Fish in Idaho to see if'en a smokeless is even legal to hunt with
