I put a muzzle brake on my H&R Ultra because of recoil and muzzle jump. The brake is a harrel's intended for using sabots. I had it bored and polished .007 over groove diameter, and have shot 200gr sst bullets through it. I want to shoot 225gr bullets but the maker of these bullets says not to use these bullets when using a brake. Why can I shoot sst bullets and barnes 195gr bullets but not others of the same diameter?

You might contact the maker of the bullets directly, they must have a reason.

Liability would be my guess. Did Hornady say it was fine to shoot their sabot bullets threw a break? I shot a 40 Accumax in a sabot beakless recoil was very mild. The bullet preformed well.

Pretty sure he is talking about Pittman bullets, he used them last year. And his gun had severe barrel jump when shot off a bench before the brake installation. I could guess to as why but best to call the distributor and ask why Kenny.

I emailed pittman bullets but never got a email back saying why. I would shoot 250gr parker BE's but I do not care for that thin jacket on a deer hunting bullet.

Either the bullet seller is worried about instability causing a strike or just issuing a blanket statement to cover the fact that it’s believed most brakes don’t work with sabots. Either way it’s kinda hard to know when you don’t get an answer...

If Harrell's lists these brakes to be safe for shooting sabots and to only be machined .007 over barrel groove diameter I would think they would have someone testing these with different bullets just to be on the safe side.
