What are your thoughts on the 380? I am not a big fan but the only guns my wife has decided are comfortable to carry and shoot are some small 380's. We just bought her a Taurus Spectrum. We will put several hundred rounds of various target ammo thru it to get used to it, test reliability etc. If all goes well, we will try a few expensive boxes of defensive ammo for function testing. Not sold on the ballistics. Until we figure out if the gun is reliable, she will still carry her ruger .357 LCR with 38 130 PDX's. She says it's too big. I wish she would stick with the LCR.

Much better than not carrying at all. Certainly better than the .25s. Even the .32s were popular in Europe. I think you would be adequately served with the .380s with quality bullets.

If the gun is reliable and I can get her to shoot it a lot. change mags, be able to rack it cleanly, be able to clear a jam quickly, understand the differences with an auto, etc etc. then I will feel better. I just like the no-nonsense, 5 trigger pulls 5 shots fired almost 100% guaranteed by the LCR. She has gotten complacent about practice and I think it becomes exponentially more important if you want to carry a little semi auto. Am I wrong?

I would not say a revolver is an better for lac of practice than a semi automatic. Reloading a semi auto is much easier under stress. Small 380’s in my opinion are great carry guns because you can always conceal one. I’d much rather have a 380 to defend myself with than the 45 at home because it’s to big and heavy. Sure a 45 is going to be more decisive but the 380 is always with me. A 380 is not a great defensive round but one I am willing to stake my life on. The new high performance ammunition is not that bad.

I think a real pro can do a lot of damage with a 22 LR revolver or a short .380. My only concerns are with the complacent non-practicing wife.
I just need to get her out to the range regularly. One improvement is that I have had her rack the slide over and over, change mags, clear rounds and other excersizes to make her familiar with the gun. She is actually having fun with that and I found her messing around with it one day when I came upstairs. Now just have to wait for the weather so we can get some range time. Still unfired

So, while testing my .357 shot shells of many different colors, my wife has been putting rounds thru the .380 Taurus Spectrum. She does real well with it and has become to like the little gun more than the little LCR she has had the past 7 yrs. She keeps all her shots on a dinner plate at 7-10 yds. In 150 rds it has not malfunctioned in any way with target ammo. Nice little gun. I have shot maybe 30 rds of the 150 and it is surprisingly accurate.
I wonder if it is best to use the flat pt FMJ's to ensure penetration or if we need to test some expanding defence ammo? It's so slow I wonder if the FMJ's might actually be better for this round? They are flat nose.
You can carry this gun I your back pocket with a checkbook between the gun and the outer pocket and it disappears. She has a pocket book with secret chambers.
thoughts on the ammo for this little weasel?
