Hello everyone, just shot my 45 cal. Rem ML. Today, I installed a pac nor barrel on it. Only 58 grs. Of h-4198 with win.primers, hornady sst's and smooth blue harvester sabots. 3 of the 4 pedals blew off. Is this normal ? Thanks , Lou.

Lose the sabots, get a sizer and shoot bullet to bore. That'll solve the problem.

I have not had that problem with harvester sabots, do they load extremely tight

This happens. Petals failing is not necessarily sabots blowing. The base of the sabot is the telling piece.

Thanks Guys, it shoots good groups, just thought the load was on the light side. It loads snug but not super tight. My first 45. Been shooting the 50 since savage came out with there Smokeless.

I think I will try sabotless, going to call Luke and get a sizing die. I got the barrel and plug from him, so some guidance will help. Thank you Everyone. Lou.

If it groups good dont worry about the sabots losing petals. The MMP orange for example would shed them routinely but shot just fine. This tends to happen more often in the cold with the Harvesters. Ive shot them from my Pacnor 45 with faster loads of N120 without shedding petals. Its was also much warmer than now.

Yes, it was cold here in N.Y.yesterday. I'm gonna wait for some warmer weather. I've had sabots lose pedals in my 50 before to. It never affected the accuracy. Still have to try some different powders and bullets. This is my first 45, that's way I was just wondering what to expect. Thanks for all the reply's. Lou.

Get a box of 250 (or 300) xtp's to play around with and get the feel for the sizing first. Cheap practice, and the 300's are deer killers too.

Just know that you will be experiencing more recoil. A 300gr bullet propelled by 58gr H4198 will set you back much more than the 200gr pills.

That is one of the reasons I wanted to know.I shoot the 200 grain sst bullet and 60 grains of h4198.It feels comfortable shooting that. Then I have guys shoot 250-300 grains and they talked about the recoil. In my knight mountaineer I used to shoot 110 grains of blackhorn 209 with 250 grain bullets, andthought that was just a little too much.
