Anyone know about the new 350 legend cartridge from Winchester?

Modified .223 case with a .357 bullet. “Supposed” to dethrone the 450 bushmaster and 300 blackout🤔

I just seen a Facebook poster from Winchester. The 150 deer season XP was listed at 2325 fps. I am getting a little over 2300 fps with 180 gr Speer in my 357 maximum. Looks like it is about a 200 yard load. Not a big difference. The 450 BM and my 460 SW rifle are pushing 2500 fps with 250 gr bullets. The 357 cal is a lot nicer to shoot.

I would like to see it in a pump or a auto with a carbine barrel. The ar platform doesn,t work for us in NY.

From what I’ve seen right know you can get it a bolt gun of either browning or Winchester

Unless they offer it in a micro action like the CZ527 i dont see much of any benefit using it in a typical SA. You can get a 6.5Gren in the CZ527 but it is rather costly. There several rounds that fit the SA better and ammo is offered in reduced recoil such as the 7mm-08(140gr@2400fps). The only thing the 350 really offers is a straight wall where its required by law. The fairly cheap 140gr plinking ammo is pretty cool.

Gmb what I think you’re missing states like Delaware won’t let you use a true rifle cartridge but will allow to use a straight wall pistol cartridge this one gives rifle performance without the punch a spot for kids to have a rifle in their hand over a 12 or 20 guage or a 450 or 44 there not many that fall inline with rande ie 200 yards without knocking your teeth out

Wouldn't help me, Delaware only allows pistol cartridges and the case can only be 1.81 in length So I bought a 460 S&W and a 445SM Barrels from MGM

Our way it’s legal for Delaware I checked all up to the head game warden also with the lady in charge of deer hunting. I have her on speed dial

I also load 357 Max and get similar speeds. Like the 357 Max this cartridge has same ballistics/trajectory. The true bc of the 150 gr bullet is likely just a smidge above Hornady’s 140FTX (bc=.16) so say .17 and calculate at 2350fps(advertised) and you’ll see it’s same trajectory as 450 BM but has only 700fpe at 200yds. The BM is a genuine 300+ deer load. Many compare BC’s and have no clue that the same bullet has a different bc for different velocity ranges.. that’s why I see guys trying to compare the FTX Leverevolution BC,s listed at rifle velocity against HP JSP bullets calculated at pistol velocity...and saying there is t much benefit...actually there is as distance increases. But a lot of guys on the internet just go by numbers they don’t understand. Reality is that at 200+ yards these differences become very obvious, but inside 100 which is more than most shoot, they think there’s little difference and they’re right. The win with the 350 legend is that it’s a commercially supported rimless .357 Maximum that allows chambering in more than revolvers and single shots..aka.the bolt gun and possibly .357AR guns. This will make it accurate beyond its 200 yard energy limitations. A 150gr or 180gr bullet at those speeds IS a proven deer slayer to 200...no doubt, and it’s recoil is soft and sweet. It would make a nice low recoil option for anyone who doesn’t need the extra hundred yards the 450BM offers.. I think if Ruger and/or Savage chamber it in the American/Axis, we’ll have a winner that takes off like the 450 did. If neither do, then my bet is it dies slowly in the Win XPR rifle alone. IMHO the XPR is a nice shooting rifle, with some nice features, but honestly the American and Axis shoot just as well for $100 less AND both are made here rather than Portugal.

Ruger already has a "mini action". The 77/357 might work for the 350 with a little retooling. It would be expensive but a Howa Mini action with 223 barrel is under $400 online. Not sure if you can buy just the action.

The 77/357’s magazine limits the COL of even long .357 Mags with longer bullets. Guys have been daydreaming about reaming one to 357 Maximum for years...but that’s only possible when loaded single shot at a time.

Not really a problem for Ruger and their tooling though is it.
