How do u determine how many pillars u use and why

The pillars are used where the action screws are. When done properly, it gives you a metal (receiver) to metal (pillar) to metal (floorplate/escutcheon) surface that will not shrink or expand due to moisture. Some guns like a Ruger 10/22 only has 1 screw holding it together so I only bed one pillar. Some add a 3rd pillar to the Savage 10ML action so you can remove the bolt without disturbing the bedding.
