This past Saturday was the opener for Iowa's first regular gun season. I went out and sat on my family's farm with a farm tag and just before dusk this guy stepped out following some does. I took the shot at 225 yards as he wasn't getting any closer and it was getting dark. It was a poor shot on my part. I hit him in the throat just barely catching his windpipe. A short tracking job produced this old guy. Gun was a CVA Scout V2 45-70 converted by Luke with his ASG LRMP breech plug. Load was 275 Parker BE pushed by 60 grains of IMR 4198.
