What is the best way to remove the factory grease / preservative in a new Rem 700 UML? I’ve tried carbon solvent, mineral spirts & the boiling water method & the patches still don’t come out totally white. What does Remington use in these barrels? Do I need to hit it with Kroil & JB Bore Paste?

Shoot it and it will be gone. Can't say I went that far prepping a factory barrel. I scrub it with a bronze brush, patch it out, shoot, reload, shoot....

Have you tried acetone? or a good commercial spray bore scrubber? If all else fails and you are still wanting something to try, I suggest you go to an auto parts store and buy a can of de-greaser. The stuff I use at work literally blows through built up badly contaminated high temp high speed bearing grease like a power washer through dust.

Brake cleaner or Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber should cut right through.
