Those were fun days brother; at least for the majority of us who could get along with one another. That period of rapid advancement and learning was the best. I live in a county where the legislature will not go rifle so the MLs are still the bread and butter for me. It's still kinda cool knowing that nobody in the area totes a superior weapon (a couple of my buddies that I built guns for have equal fire-power). My 10 ML2 was light years ahead of a shotgun and going to the .45s (our minimum bore size) was also fun. Converting 700 MLs, pillar bedding stocks etc. all with the expert advice openly provided by our members.

I can relate. I stopped at PacNor 45s and a 40. Admire those who went beyond. No CF where I live. 5 1/2 months of v & x bow. Concentrate on xbow. However, for about 3-4 days a year the e0 and 45s get to go hunting. 35g VV-110/LBH/knurled 200SST is an excellent 200 yard load (2400’/sec ). I’ll have to look up my load for my 40 cal / 240 annealed CEB. So, I too, am staying in yesteryear.

Ah, yes, "back in the good ol' days" of Doug and Mammaflinter, Rick Bibby (considered him the godfather of the board), and a few others, I learned more about working on rifles than all my prior days combined. I was able to convert and bed a 10MLII to .45 and with the help of Luke spinning a couple of barrels, I was then able to totally convert a couple 700ml's to .45 as well as changing the stocks, pillaring & bedding them. None of that would have been done had I never known about this board!
Like Steve, I'm in awe of those who have gone further, but for myself, I'm quite happy with the older systems for they do such a great job and are very accurate. Iowa is now allowing straight walled CF hunting, but I do not feel "under-gunned" with the SML's and will not be joining that crowd.
Good hunting to all this fall!

I feel fortunate to have found Doug's when I did [2006]...Without the knowledge and help from the members of that day I wouldn't be where I'm at today...I'm Hunter first and foremost so I'm satisfied to keep it simple...I do appreciate all the advancements that have been made since then..Like you all I miss the days of old on this board. Thanks Wilms for the memories...Keep em coming. Zen
