I currently shooting a remington ultimate with the asg gen 2 bp.
I am trying to find a load for the 325 fury star tips. I purchased a swing lock smooth sizing die but am new to the sizing game.
I am able to start a bullet without using the sizing die. It does take moderate effort to push them down the barrel but very manageable.
I ran them through the die on the second setting and they seat with minimal effort.
I have only shot the bullets ran through the die on the second setting. I have not shot any of the unsized bullets yet. At best I am getting around 1.5 moa. I am using a .030 veggie wad.
I started working up from 86 grains to 92 grains of bh 209 (by weight) but am finding only mediocre accuracy. What level of accuracy should I expect from a factory gun?
Can anyone share any tips/routines they use while developing loads using a sizing die?
Thanks!

Can anyone share any tips/routines they use while developing loads using a sizing die? Thanks! NOTE...…… ANY LOAD DATA PUT FORWARD WITHIN MY POST …. IS NOT FOR PRODUCTION RIFLES. This only relates to the Remington Ultimate and/or the Ultimate Firearms Inc. rifles, which are approved for very heavy charges. DO NOT TRY TO DUPLICATE THESE CHARGES IN PRODUCTION MUZZLELOADERS! READ AND FOLLOW YOUR RIFLES OWNERS MANUAL.I'm not shooting a RUM, but am shooting the Ultimate Firearms BP Xpress with the AGS Gen2 breech plug. For the force to move the bullet down the barrel after it goes beyond the crown, I used the suggested 20# +/- provided by Bestill. This is not to get the bullet started through the crown, but rather the force to move the bullet down the barrel to the propellant. To obtain the 20# force ….. in my barrel …. the sizing die remains on "0". But again, barrels are different and the setting is for my specific barrel. Yours may differ greatly. Most may use a set of bathroom scales to measure the force. Note..... I've just started sizing myself, but am learning quickly that with die settings …. IT MATTERS. Force can be perceived very differently from individual to individual. The first step I'd recommend is to determine the size which gives as close as possible, the 20# loading force. I'd error on the high side of 20# myself and try not going under 20#. Use a set of bathroom scales, but don't run the bullet down the bore fast, just what it takes to move the bullet down the bore. Speed increases error. I know that some with the RUM have had great groups using just 84grs by weight, but it was impossible with my Lothar Walther barrel. I worked on the sizing/loading force, then worked on the charges. I started bumping it up in 5grs until is started tightening up the group, then bumped it up by 2grs. AND 2 grs made a significant difference, especially at ranges beyond 100yds. What may appear to shoot great at 100yds, may shoot bad at 200 or 300yds. 2grs mad a significant difference in my long range groups. My rifle shoots the bullet the best with 105grs WEIGHT of BH. I use a .518" diameter, .060" veggie wad. I wrote this a couple days back here on the forum: dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/21039/busy

Encore, thank you very much for the informative reply.
That should get me going in the right direction.
Thanks,

If you can already start the bullet down the bore why are you running them thru the sizer. Check the diameter of one you can start then adjust your die to that diameter
