Feeling a little dumb at the range without a spotter.
I share a nightforce scope between my long range rifle (7mm wsm) and my custom savage muzzy.
Couple weeks ago I started sighting my muzzleloader in with the standard savage stock and wasn’t happy with my groups (~2 MOA) so I put it in my XLR chassis and finally made it back to the range to sight it in for the hunt (starts next Wednesday).
First shoot was high left about 4” off seemed odd. So I shoot again keyhole, 3rd keyhole, i stopped swabbing the barrel thinking maybe it’s the bullets are too loose and 4th and 5th keyhole. Some of the keyholes looked smaller than the bullet. Lots of confusion. I aimed at another target that was a little higher up the box for my 7th shot. I noticed a hole 10 Moa low. I adjust 10 Moa up on the target.
Apparently I was hitting the ground in front of the target the whole time 😳. Amazing that the point of impact between the factory stock and my chassis is about 10 MOA. Both were used with an atlas bipod same load, bullet (same sizing) and charge.
The chassis has very little muzzle jump. I could probably see the target still if it was for my radial brake blowing dirt. Wieght plus solid/more consistent check rest. Only took $20 worth of bullets and a trip to the range to get back on paper.

LOL, Buddy did the same thing when sighting in a 12 ga slug barrel. Trying get on paper at 100 ft and the slugs were bouncing off the path to the target, big ole TP box with target stapled on. Frustrating for him until I got there and saw the problem. We still laugh about that! 10

I got it fixed now and stretch it to 500 yards. Buck mule deer opens Wednesday for me!
