Hey guys and gals, bought my dad a Savage 111 Trophy Hunter in 30-06 for X-mas. It came with a Nikon 3x9-40, think it might be a prostaff not sure. However it needs to be moved back for him and we are out of room on the rings. The gun already has an extension base on the front. I have explored the idea of a one piece base. Was wondering if there were any other good options?

A one piece scope base is probably your best option. Keep in mind that Savage receivers are notorious for not being true, and the base really should be bedded. You could use Burris Signature rings, but there would still otherwise be stress on the mount. If you are not familiar with bedding a mount, this link has good instructions: www.murphyprecision.com/Page/Scope_Base_BeddingI do use a straight edge to make certain the base is not being bowed during the bedding process.

Scopes are too expensive to trash with a 2 piece set of mounts. Get a good quality 1 piece and bed it properly. It will also give you the most flexibility in mounting position.
