I just bought a cva scout v2 and want to reload. I would like the 250 mono at 2300-2400. Has any one tried this set up yet. I have 4198,3031,4895,varget,reloader 7. And what primer should I use? I have the same gun converted, shooting 250 grain bullets at 2430 with 60 gr of 4198.
If you have the same gun converted, try the same thing you are using except with less powder: I don't care what anyone says bullets don't obturate like folks think they do and you will now have a bullet making contact with a leade. I'd say start at 50gn of H4198 and work back up to your desired MV. I've had good luck with Federal rifle primers in LR and LRM. Also, you won't need the magnum primer because, again despite common belief by some, it's not needed especially since you aren't trying to make it go a long ways through a hole that is 40% smaller than what's in a metallic case.

I followed the rcbs directions to set up dies. First reloading ever, not to hard. 50 gr of h4198 got me 2250 fps and 1/2 inch group at 50 yards at 1 degree this morning. Now reload some more and see what this load does at 100 and 200.
Final load data. 51.4 gr of h4198 with hornady 250 mono flex bullet, federal lrp, starline brass. Dead on at 100 yds gave me 7 3/4 inch drop at 200 yds with one of my best three shot groups ever( .760 three shot group). I have exactly 520 dollars into this set up. Going to be my ohio gun.
