AS Herman said, we had a really good range day. Weather was in the 75 to 85* range with not a cloud in the sky. The wind was pretty much non-existent from the time I got to the range at 7:30 a.m. (Herman and Bill get there at 6:00 : until about 9:30 when a bit of a cross breeze kicked in.
I started the day off with a load dave d shot this past week and while it was OK, I did not get his results. Although he used a 195 Barnes and I used a 200 gr. XTP. Group #1
The next four groups were all shot with the same duplex. I just varied the bullet and sabot. Group #2 used a plain blue Harvester, Group #3 used a blue crushed rib Harvester, Group #4 was sabotless with a 200 gr. FTX and group #5 was identical to group #2 only shot at 300 yards.
Note: I have target #2 located under Target #5 which were both the identical load.
Group #6 was another duplex shot sabotless at 300 yards.
Back to 100 yards, #7, with the 195 Barnes, a blue plain Harvester and the same duplex as group #6
The most consistent load was Group #8 shot with the 200 SST , plain blue Harvester and another duplex. The velocity was in the range I'm looking for and the Extreme Spread was only 12 fps.
There were some times where the sun gave me some bad readings with the chronograph but all in all, it was a good session and I find I'm getting a good feel for what the rifle likes.
I hope this information is of some help to others shooting the .45 who may not have as much time to shoot as I do.
Also, for what its worth, I collected a few of the FTX's and a .40 XTP shot into the dirt berm at 300 yards.
