I just changed out a 223 to 30-06, New bolt head (per what I could find on line it takes a short action bolt head) and I have a new trigger guard and mag coming I have head spaced with gauges went to the range this am, went bang maybe 25% of the time came home, checked head space, per gauges it was fine but I put the vices on it to where the bolt was feeling the go gauge, put 3 cases together with win primers, same deal 1 out of 3 went bang, figured maybe it was the firing spring so I stretched it a tad, and that made no difference, the strike on the primers might be a tad light and I could maybe take a hair off the bolt head retaining pin but I'm not sure that's the answer any help would be appreciated Ron

I ground down a ss 1/4 washer to fit behind the spring, at this time it's a maybe, put primers in 3 hard resized cases and it went bang 3 times, now back to the range and see if it's fixed

Did you check firing pin protrusion after changing bolt heads?

Ken, Visually yes, by measurement no I did not. It is sticking out a lot further than the strikes indicate. I put 4 more primer only cases together this am and it went bang all 4 times, so in the am we'll see

So I put that washer in behind the spring last night, The gun went off every time I pulled the trigger this morning, probably 25 rounds
