Gonna try some 250gr REAL bullets from my brothers SML converted H&R 45/70 buffalo classic. Will be using 25-30gr of N110, so around 1800 FPS is max speed. PSI max about 30k.
I have Lee liquid alox and Lyman black gold stick lube. Which would be better in this application? Not really worried about fouling, just want to avoid leading.
Thanks!

Dragon bullet lube And White label lube Both companies offer quality high velocity lube. I believe red dragon would be your best option

Appreciate the advice, but of the two I have available, which would you recommend?

Definitely alox the blackgold is for blackpowder and designed to keep the fouling soft not good with smokeless.
A quality wax ring for toilet would be a alternative beeswax

Thanks. Like I said we wont be pushing them hard. I just really hate scrubbing a leaded bore.

X2 what Bestill said. I used them for years, still have quite a few on the shelf. They were very accurate with pyrodex in the TC Renegade.

My choice would be the Alox also. The best insurance against leading is a felt wad under the base of the bullet. It will also improve accuracy.

1800fps is way too fast to push a REAL regardless of lube. Even a hardcast might have some leading at that speed.

that is a 1 and 20 twist so you need a 400 grain bullet to make it shoot as it should. lee alox workd well with black horn 209 powder in the case with a 60 thousnds wad between powder and bullet. had one for years but finally sold it to a shooter who wanted it more than i did.

1800fps is way too fast to push a REAL regardless of lube. Even a hardcast might have some leading at that speed. X2 for what GMB54-120 said!! 1800 is way to fast for unalloyed lead. And believe me real bullets made of alloyed lead are a PITA to use if not completely unuseable, unless you size them. Ask how I know! And if you have to size them to load it probably means ignition problems with SML. Believe soft PB works just fine under 1600 and above that you are getting into leading barrel and shaving range. RF ammo a lesson, even the cheap modest velocity 22mag bullets are jacketed and they are in the 1800fps range. The wad under the base of REAL bullets is good. \ As for shooting them I'd just stick with "holy black" 1st choice, 2nd choice BP subs. This reflects my experience and opinion, others will differ. 10ga
