Go get 'em ! This Bear Season in NJ was the best since the hunts began . The reason was that with a very mild early December the bears did not den as early as they had in past years . Chris

Just curious, if the season ends before the bears come out of their dens, do you have to go in after them? That could prove interesting if they are light sleepers.

That would be like Noodling for bears. When they bite down just pull them out... No you just hang on to the tag and use it in the fall season

I asked this before on a different forum and curious for those who hunt bear what's your preferred way to eat them? I'd love to hunt bear but heard they don't taste very good and if I hunt them I'd like to eat them otherwise to me it isn't worth hunting. Thanks in advance!

As fun as it is to hunt bear, alas they taste like Chicken... NOT! They make very poor table fair for sure. If you Smoke them or jerk them or some way cover the smell and taste you can choke them down.

Partner at work killed a 200# black bear last Friday in Quebec. Shot with 357 maximum at 22 yd. Said it flipped over and stumbled for 40 yds till the death moan. He used my deer load, 32gr aa1680 and 200gr Hdy ftx. Broke a rib and offside shoulder, then exited. He was very impressed with the results. He passed on some bigger ones early on, but this was last night and he said now or never, so he took it. Another hunter in camp got a 400# boar with a 12ga to the back of the head!
