Lots of forums have member challenges. Rather than have the annual rendezvous I am reposting this challenge a friend of mine posted on another forum. Shot with an AR-15 although I guess you could use any auto-loader: Time for a new drill. We do this one once a year for score.
NRA B8 Bullseye or this one- 10-8forums.com/targets/10-8bullseye.pdf
400 Point Aggregate: Total of 40 rounds and 400 points possible.
100 yards standing to prone. 10 rounds in 60 seconds.
75 yards standing to sitting. 10 rounds in 60 seconds.
50 yards standing to kneeling. 10 rounds in 60 seconds.
25 yards standing. 10 rounds in 60 seconds.
On the NRA target nothing outside of the 8-ring counts and on the 10-8 target nothing outside of the 7-ring counts.
No bipods and no rear bags for any portion. Slings are permissible. Finally, got a chance to shoot this challenge. I've been busy lately and was actually headed to the range to work with a muzzleloader. Stopped at the LGS which only had Wolf steel case so I grabbed 3 boxes. Zeroed at 100yds then went for it. I got a little wild from the knee since I had to deal with a bolt over base after third shot then rushed what was left of my mag. I'll try it again with some proper ammo. When I scored mine I had the targets mixed up and thought 7's didn't count. My score is actually 373 and I guess since there is no X-ring on this target it's just a number.

Good shooting Keith. that's a lot of shooting in short amounts of time especially when you have to move around during the string. Not very much right hand drift, you must be an experienced shooter with good trigger control even when rushed

Come close to running out of time on any of the disciplines? Any idea what your lowest scoring string was?

Interesting drill. You did well but I am not surprised.

Come close to running out of time on any of the disciplines? Any idea what your lowest scoring string was? I had to clear that bolt over base from kneeling. I went from slung in, to immediate action, to clearing a gross malfunction, got back into my sling and hammered away not knowing where I was on the clock. That was my worst string and I did it in just over 58 seconds. Most of my strings were a comfortable 45ish seconds.

Great shooting.....obviously not using iron sights.
What kind of scope setup do you have on your AR?

The target I posted in the thread was with an Aimpoint H1 with 4 MoA dot. I didn't have much ammo or a front sight tool with me that day but I'll reshoot it with irons and see. I bet it's in the 340 range but we'll see.

I've never been good at being told I couldn't do something then Cole added the challenge of making it sound like I better be able to so I did. I will admit that last time I just zeroed at 100yds then shot the drill. With irons I zeroed at 100yds and too the remaining 9 rounds I had and shot 3 each at 25, 50, and 75yds to make sure I knew how to hold for the drill. Unlike the other day I had no malfunctions so there were no rushed stages and I was able to just shoot on cadence: This isn't the first time I've seen an improvement with irons over optics. My buddy Norm almost always shoots better with irons over optics. I've watched him do it time and gain at 1000yds because he works harder. The other thing that I think helped was with the 4 MoA dot in the Aimpoint I was covering nearly the entire mass of the target. With the irons I was able to more clearly quarter the target and favor my elevation holds.

Nice shooting Keith, I was confident that 100yds with irons would be no problem for you. No run the same drill with a Garand and get back to me

No thanks, I don't even like large frame AR platforms. Plus I'd sound like a typewriter, "pop, pop, pop, ping".

Even better shooting! Didn't mean to make it sound like you couldn't do it. Was just curious what scope your using.

It's all in good fun. I needed to know if I could. Turns out I can. If I can't find those stupid little batteries during the Zombie apocalypse I'm going to be ok with the BUIS.
