1. All rules and regulations aside. If you could build any caliber (dream) sml in any style. What would it be? In detail and why if you like.
2. All rules and regulations apply. If you could only have/own 1 (dream) sml. What would it be? In detail and why if you like.
Ready, Set, Go......

I think a 6.5 or 7 would be a dream to shoot long. Great BC, little powder burnt, and very manageable recoil. Downside of course being the specialized equipment to load the beast.
All rules considered..... I want to change the rules. The ability to use the rifle should be dependent on energy that it can deliver. Then I would use a 375 for everything. Tough bullets available in just about every flavor.

Swinglock .416 with a 49" barrel, an Uncle Mike's recoil pad, and a Tasco 30-150x scope....

Can I pick one of each? I thought a 7mm would be cool, but always have a soft spot for any 35(wish I still had that one). Xp100 action would be cool too.
NY regs say anything over 44 so I've always wanted to be a smart a$$ and make a full form 44 but bullet selection sucks. Given the regs though its gotta be a 45. My first "dream sml" was a 45 with a 1.375 barrel on a 600 Mohawk action. That was a beast

#1. That 6.5 is looking pretty cool for all the reasons previously stated.
#2. What I already have, .45 cal on a Savage target action. Simple yet elegant, easy to get bullets and powder and good out to further than the owner's capabilities.

Swinglock Light Thumbover in 40cal. Dont really need the power of a 416 and 40cal is the minimum legal caliber for MLs during deer season.

1. A Swinglock in 6.5mm, but would "settle" for: Remington 40X CMC Bolt Timney 510 (Have no need to go below 1.5#) 27" Brux 6.5mm (although the bullet selection would break me!) Luke's Breech Plug Murphy one piece base Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 Burris Signature Rings Boyd's ProVarmint, Coyote, owner installed HiViz recoil pad Score-Hi pillars and some Devcon 10110 "mud" 2. Same as above, but .451. I have a .451 on a 10MLII in which .451-.452 bullets get full formed and love it......but we're talking "dream", right? All rules considered..... I want to change the rules. The ability to use the rifle should be dependent on energy that it can deliver. Amen, AMEN, AMEN!! I was raised in Nebraska where regs state a CF has to have 900fpe @ 100yds. Then they have a different set of rules for ML's! Double standards! Iowa, like too many other states go strictly by caliber. Oh, well, they have to keep the flintlock, cap & ball crowd happy.

My dream SML would be a Remington 40x action CMC 209 fluted bolt Jewell 1.5# trigger Brux .30 cal 28" barrel with powder chamber Luke's plug Manners MCS-T4A stock Seekins rings and 1 piece base Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56
Think that would do it...
For a legal where I hunt it needs to be .44 call or bigger. I pretty much built what I wanted for that.
Remington 700 ML SS action .45 cal Brux barrel W/ Harrels radial brake 2# trigger tech trigger HS precision stock W/ BDL bottom metal Leupold mark 4 1 piece base and rings Leupold VX-3L 4.5-14x50 W/ M1 turrets

Amen to that dannoboone! I wanted to use my .45 cal Savage in Colorado during a cow only season that was for centerfire rifles. I was told I couldn't because I had to use a .50 cal or larger, and basically comply with all of their muzzleloader regs even though it wasn't a muzzleloading season. .243 centerfire rifle cal. was minimum to use.

I called the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Denver Office. I repeated the question, saying "You mean that even though my .45 cal. muzzleloader has more energy than a .243, and it will be used during a centerfire rifle season, not a muzzleloader season, that I can't use it?" Yes was the answer.

Aggravating, isn't it? So, I ended up using my wildcat 7mm that was pushing a 180g bullet @ 3350 fps.
