I have been fooling around with the die smooth form I think any way I have been trying 45 caliber pistol bullets I have it set to where the bullet shows some resistance Not really hard but then again not real easy My question is what wad would I use and when fired will the bullet expand and seal for good ignition No misfires? I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I have watched Luke's video over and over I don't think I have the die he refers too I will be attempting to load for 3 different SML'ers so far the only one I have is the Encore 45-70 slufoot conversion that I am sizing the bullets for and trying them in the barrel. I think you're talking about the Swinglock adjustable die.

Some use the .060 veggie wads some use the lubed wool wads. An adjustable sizing die is the most common used for sizing. You have to have several different sizes in the fixed dies for a wide range of adjustment for different bullets and different barrels. The adjustable is what I use. On the sealing a lot depends on the bullet jacket thickness on how tight or loose of a fit you may want.

Yes it has graduations and is adjustable I can see now I am going to have problems trying to keep bullets straight for three different barrels. I guess trial and error will be the only way. When I had my savage it was so easy just put a bullet in a sabot and shoot Thanks Lou

Don't give up on the sizing die.

I keep notes for the different barrels I have and what I size the different bullets to for each one. It helps a lot.

Well I am about to pull my hair out No matter what way I set the Swinglock smooth die all the bullet size the same push down my barrel with no resistence at all before I run them through the die they are impossible to even start down the barrel. I can turn the die either way one full turn and the bullets size the same I did 50 bullets. I can not understand why this happens. I have tried adjusting this die every way possible.

If you have gone one full turn you have probably ruined the insert.

I remember back when Tom came up with the adjustable die, Harley was doing long range work with the parker BEs, and reported a similar experience. Tom came here and posted that he suspected he had a cracked insert and asked him to send it back to him, and that was indeed the case.
Get a hold of Tom. He'll take care of you.

Took the die apart no visible crack that I can see but one thing I was doing wrong I wasn't tightening the die down to the top of the press. I re-assemblrd the die and tightened it down with a cresant wrench Now the dies seems to be working. I turned the die down 1,2,& 3 increments and size a pistol bullet it went into my barrel fine and with more resistance than the ones I did before I had to use some muscle to push the bullet through. I think I have it now. I realize by not having the die tight against the top of the press when I was turn the dial I wasn't doing a thing as it turned very easy. With it tightened down on the press there is no way I could do a full turn in both directions. Thanks to everyone. Lou
