Finally had a chance to head out and use my smokeless McRem 45 cal i put together last spring. I am very pleased with it's performance Barnes 250gr TEZ (knurled), muzzle velocity 2700fps, recovered just under the hide on the offside next to the start of the right hind quarter, just under the loin. The buck was quartering to me but the bullet did not appear to travel in a straight line after impact, it veered to the right after hitting the shoulder and ribs. 5gr Clays International/60gr IMR4198, Win209 primer, savage breech plug with .030 carbide bushing, temp 24*F The buck had just shed his left antler (we tried to find it but no luck yet). While inspecting the shot placement I popped off his right side We were just playing around with some antlers so my wife snapped a few photos Maybe some day.... My oldest son was a great partner and gave me ranges as this buck came in at a fast run off to my left. When he stopped him with a loud grunt, my son ranged the buck at 304yds, I used my Omega scope BDC circles for 300yds and held off to the right for a right crosswind. After the shot, he ran maybe 25yds and piled up. You can see the small red bullet entrance on the left shoulder I had a similar sized left antler shed so I held it for a photo just for fun

It seems some of the bucks are shedding a bit early this year. It would be my luck to see the big one with one or both antlers gone. Nice write up.

Congrats on the buck/doe. I'm sure you were a bit bummed when you plucked the ivory off him but nonetheless a success!
