I recently purchased a McGowen .45 cal Barrel for my ML II I bought it off of another site slightly used. The gentlemen also sold me his Parker 300 grn. bullets and included was Veggie wads and Cotton wads. My first question is a wad necessary? And If so which is best to use?

Not the answer you want, but- you will have to experiment with the gun to find out what it likes. Did you ask the seller what he found it liked?

There is no poi difference with my mcgowen no wad vs. Veggie wad at 100 yards (smooth formed). I use a wad anyway For extra insurance. Provides a good seal

My McGowen liked the Parkers with .060 Veggie wads and that's all I ever shot out of it. Like mentioned, testing and comparing will give you the answer you're looking for, but using a wad is good insurance for better seal and ignition.
