I have the NEF uses .40cal bullets n sabots. At what point in the Temp degrees would it be best to use the duplex ? Most of my late season hunitng in the last of Dec. temps range from mid 40's down into the single digits.

I had issue a few years ago at 30deg, but it was in my 50cal and straight h4198. 45 cal build pressure quicker and higher so should be less issue. A lot depends on the powder used. If you stay with sr4759, n110, or 5744, you dont need to duplex. Some guys never have issue with h4198 from 56-63gr. Even if you only used 5gr of any of those three boosters under a minimum load of h4198, you would have a solid insurance plan to help.

I Always use a duplex when hunting
Possible exceptions: modified savage plug with deeper powder well; .040 bushing plug; Lukes plug; Hankins plug. The closer the powder is to the primer the better.

Under cool weather hunting conditions I would always make my first shot a duplex----------provided it gave me good accuracy! You could always carry a similar velocity single powder load for a second or finishing off shot.

I've found that unless a person is wanting the fastest load possible, VV-110 is difficult to beat for saboted 45 and 50 cal loads. 2450'/sec can be practically obtained with the stock ML-2/250g bullet (45-46g) and 2500+ with 36-37g in 45 and 195 and 200g bullets. Straight VV-110 is the most temp stable powder I've ever found.

I have not experienced misfires in the field with straight charges but I prefer duplex for temp stability. Once temps drop into the teens is where I noticed larger velocity swings from warmer temps chrony readings.

Just 5g of a booster (red dot, green dot, clays etc.) or similar burn rates give good insurance for colder temps. Plus give a cleaner burn and just wake up your loads! You will like it. .45cal not as sensitive to straight loads, I've seen .50's have problems.

If your shooting is going to be less than 100yds, even mild velocity swings of single powder loads likely wouldn't affect poi too drastically in a woods hunting situation.

I love duplex loads! That said, I've seen no duplex load as temp stable as a higher pressure VV-110 load.

I wouldn't know how to act with a single powder load at
any temperature. I use quite a bit of N110, but always
as a duplex primer load. Duplex loads with N110 gave me
more accuracy than single powder loads, and I never
looked back. Others have gotten fantastic groups with
single powder loads. Some people drive Fords, some
Chevy's, and some are not satisfied with anything less
than a RAM.
