Well, since my 700ML isn't around anymore and our gun season opens in a week and a half, I went ahead and put the finishing touches on a build that had been kind of plodding along. Savage 10ML-II, McMillan stock, Murphy SS base, Leupold QRW rings, Sightron SII Big Sky 6X, Aftermarket Lug and Barrel Nut, Brux 45cal using the Arrowhead Plug. Kind of feels like getting back to my roots as my first SML was a Savage 10ML-II with a Signtron. It's really hard to beat the ease of the Savage for converting over. Don't get me wrong, I like my Remingtons. But in the words of Earnhardt, if you can turn a wrench, you can do a Savage conversion. I've been stacking a 0.030" and a 0.016"pieces of shim stock in the bottom of the primer pocket on the Savage builds. This gives a nice little compression fit on the nose of the primer and results in a perfect, no blowback seal. I think the Savage plug was originally designed to work this way, but I'm guessing they got away with it because it requires a more precise headsapce, and makes a gun primer specific. (I headspace for CCI and Fed. W209 are a little longer, and the bolt won't close in my gun.)

Like I saw a stock with that same color, even though it's not a typical color for hunting purposes, at least in my mind, I love that stock! Gives it allot of pop! Great looking built! Good luck this season.

Good to see you got right back into it. Can't go wrong with a Savage conversion, they will shoot right alongside a Remington conversion.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to put a few rounds down range today or tomorrow. More than likely, it will be getting a brake at some point. But probably not until after deer season. As far as the shim stock goes... This idea wasn't original to me. I know Danno and some other guys have been doing it for a while. I did add them to my website here under misc parts, but if you PM me your address and what you need, I will send you a few. I've got them in 0.005, 0.016, and 0.030 thickness-- OD 0.241, ID 0.171. They're also for sale on Amazon and other places. smokelessmz.com/upgrades.html

Luke do you just stamp them out? I'd like to make a few to try in my Savage's. Most of mine are ml1's or RB's plugs so I would only have to make a few. You say they are for sale on Amazon is that finished or just the shim stock material?

I have looked many times for the round shim stock at 0.241 OD and cannot find them anywhere. I must be doing something wrong in my search. I also need some in .280 OD but can't find them either.

I have one of the plugs Luke sold with the shim shelf in it. The piece of shim stock was .090 thick and .241" dia.. Mine came out when I opened the flame channel up. I made one out of aluminium with a .125" hole and have about 20 shots on it and it is still holding up with no blow by.

Luke and Lakeplainshunter I sure appreciate the help and info.. I will probably buy from you Luke to try these shims out, guess it just hurt my pride that I could not find them on the net myself. I want to use these on my encore. I have been having lots of blow by problems with Pete's plug and also the PR LRP plug.

Great looking combo, there, Luke! PLEASE store it in the safe! As far as the shim stock goes... This idea wasn't original to me. I know Danno and some other guys have been doing it for a while. Wasn't my original idea, either. Lakeplainshunter gave me the needed info. I hope Danno doesn't skim this one off you too Ha, ha....now, that's cruel! I'd much rather skim someone's Grizzly gunsmith lathe. Wish ya lived closer!
