Okay I was able to shoot 540 yards today in less than ideal conditions. Winds were 15-22 mph and about 75% cross wind and 25% head wind if that makes sense on the angle. Basically I had to hold 30" into the wind... not fun.
Loading was again 95gr of IMR3031 at about 2900fps with the 243gr Cagefighter bullet and smooth blue sabot.
I only shot 1 group since I am officially down to my last 6 bullets until the next batch of tips arrives. The group measuted 9" horizontal and about 2" vertical. I did not dial in for the wind and instead used my mil-dots for windage.
While these results were not real flattering they did let me recalculate my BC which ended up at .330 today. I could do much better cherry picking a day to shoot and I probably will at some point but I was able to establish a BC and also establish that the bullets are not losing stability at extended ranges.
I will try to post my recipe tomorrow when I get my ducks in a row on the data needed to get from point A-Z. Until then any questions I will try to answer.
P.S. All PMs have been answered.
Thanks for reading and I hope it helps someone.

Really nice. Please keep us updated on the terminal performance results. Wish they were legal in my state. Just curious as to why they are not legal? edge.

Have you shot any of these out of your APEX? Keep us posted on when you do and what a good load would be. Watching with interest!

1Gifford,
I shoot the old style Cagefighter with the Corbin tips out of my apex and have a ton made up so I am not changing to this style for years or maybe ever.
I shoot that gun at about 2550fps is all. I will not go into details on that gun or load as I think it would disturb the board too much. It's pretty much a packing/carry rifle and I run pretty high pressure.
I have no doubt this new design will be fine as frog hair. If I didnt have so many of the old made up I would change but if it aint broke....

How temperature stable has the 3031 been? I recently started shooting it and have had excellent results thus far. I haven't shot it in the cold yet though

.40 caliber Cagefighter bullet mold information. Go to. Www.mountainmolds.comTop left corner "on line bullet design" select 40/10mm Weight select 240. (200-250 will all work, your preference) Alloy select WW+2% tin Bullet design select Secant As cast select .402 Crimp grove select No Crimp Front band select .402 Bore rider select N/A Front band length select .100 Bore rider select N/A Nose length select .430 Meplat select 67% Block select XL aluminum Base length select .100 GtoB ratio select 1 Angle select 30 degrees Select a 2 band mold Price will be $95 and I can't remember if that's shipping included. This is the data for a .400-.401 finished bullet after sizing. Note that you can go up in bullet weight some but I do think it would be wise to stop at 250grains. This also gives you the option to go down to 200gr if you like or anywhere in between. I have no dealings with anything other than 240 but wish I would have went with 250. I will post the same for a .450-.452 bullet for a .50 sabot in the near future as well as the mold conversion and tip data.

For a mold for .450-.452 bullets for .50 sabots Go to www.mountainmolds.comTop left on line bullet design select 45 cal Weight select 300gr. (275-325 would all work) Alloy select WW+2% Bullet design select Secant As cast select .453 Crimp grove select no crimp grove Front band select .453 Bore rider select N/A Front band length select .100 Bore rider select N/A Nose length select .475 Meplat select 59% Block select XL aluminum $95 Base length select .100 GtoB ratio select 1.0 Angle select 30 degrees Select a 2 band mold. I have not used this bullet personally but it does give the proper flow to use the Cagefighter tip design. I also have no idea what the BC would be. It may be the same .330 range but I have no data.

Anybody who would like a different size bullet that will utilize the Cagefighter tip please let me know and I will do the math. I think this tip will work well from about .40 cal to .458 caliber. Beyond that I believe bullet weight may be significant and not realistic.
As before please ask any questions and I will respond as best I can. All PMs have been answered
Happy thanksgiving to all.

Could you do the math on a .458 to shoot saboted in the .50's? I would love to try one of these at 300grn in a BCR in my stock savage. Thanks for your time and effort in all this R&D.

For .458 follow the above with these changes.
As cast dia is .460
Front band is .460
Nose length is .480
Meplat diameter is 58%
I would suggest 300gr or heavier. The reason I had to go .460 vs .459 as I would normally suggest is to get the meplat diameter correct for the tip.

Okay guys now that you have your mold made it's time to get that mold converted and get some tips to finish some bullets. Www.hollowpointmold.com is the conversion service and tip manufacturer. The point of contact there is a gentleman named Erik Ohlen and I believe he is out of Oregon. What you will want to do is have Erik cut the lube groves out of both cavities and add a pin for the hollowpoint which holds the tip to the second cavity. This will give you one cavity that drops straight bullets for practice and a one with a hollow point for practice, hunting or to insert the tip into for the same. The tips are .25 cents each and you will need to order 500 at a time to make it worth his time for set up. Ask for the Cagefighter tips/conversion or for the Tim Myers tips/coversion. I believe the total conversion cost is under $100 for the band removal and pin conversion. .25 cents a tip sounds a bit high but considering the lead to make the bullet is about .10 cents you have a fairly inexpensive high performance bullet. Again any questions will be answered.
