So you are telling me to shot my doe after rut so iam killing 3 either way? I hunt areas that are small pieces 1 reason is to remove does. Why do people go to Midwest multi media any day of season you will see a monster laying in front of sombody. Blaming cross bows is like blaming compounds when I was a kid or inlines for more hunters. Reason deer take a beating is csuse a guy a permit a lic or tag and by God he is gonna use it. I hear it all time in pa its game commission fault, yes they set season limits and how many tags but us the hunter has the choice. You talk about trophy hunters being bad, 1 I know rarely kill more than 1, and pass on alot that includes the biggest piece the mature doe who will give it half the DNA. Iam done

Shakey, I'm not looking for a fight, but I'm not sure what you are saying here. I would like to see permit numbers reduced and seasons shortened.I think outfitters are hurting Illinois and making it so the average joe is priced out of the game. I hope the guys paying big money for leases wise up. I believe IDNR is only out for permit money, not the good of the herd. I am not a trophy hunter, I am a deer hunter. With the numbers down,I choose to shoot forkies and spikes and let does walk.I believe many parts of the country have seen a collapse in their herds. That's what this thread is about. Welcome. We respect all opinions.

No fight in this dog but I do run on sentence, its all about the choice. I believe you when said you because your happy with it. Where I hunt I have to kill does but I buy more tags then I ever plan on filling. But pass on smaller bucks because I care to. They maybe your next trophy but out of last 5 big buck I killed never had one on flim or knew of

The smaller deer herds of 60 plus years ago were built up by basicly shooting bucks only ... no does . Shoot a doe back then you were hurting the deer herd and a poacher ! Back about the early '80s the deer hunters of America were sold the bill of goods that if you removed more " antlerless " deer ( including untolled numbers of button bucks ) there would be more bucks available and size of the deer would increase with more food available to individual deer . And please believe that I bought that bill of goods hook line and sinker ! The obvious issue is now this once " renewable resourse " has been so over reduced for so many years ( EHD ,coyotes , antlerless harvest ) that it can't replace the deer harvested each Fall or removed from the herd by predators or sickness. Back to the kids story of killing the goose that laid the golden eggs . Kill a doe after she is bred and you certainly kill two but if she is a nice mature ( 2 1/2 years or older ) you are killing three . Chris

IMO, Fish & Game has become just another Revenue stream for the politicians! More permits mean more money...plain and simple! Now herd management is another issue entirely! 1) If your herd is too large shoot more does, pretty simple cuz bucks never have fawns 2) If your herd is too small shoot fewer does; 3) If you are at capacity and just want hunting pleasure shoot about equal numbers of bucks and does; 4) If you are at capacity but want to build up buck antlers then shoot as many does as needed BEFORE the rut and target older does... shoot zero Trophy bucks before the rut and target bucks with no brow tines and less than "X" number of points ( consider then does or just culls )...trophy bucks after the rut only and zero does! edge.

I hunt Delaware and Maryland I have seen a decline in the number Deer seen for the amount of time in the stand. In Maryland I hunt a very good farm this year the farmer paid two guys to shoot deer they shot everything and anything there are Deer bones every where you look and this year when I would see an abundance of Deer I only saw three Doe Deer I hunted a lot from early muzzle loader season to the present three day shoot that winds it down for the year. I really can't say anything as I hunt for free and from what I heard he has hired them again for the upcoming year. I realize that the farmers hate the deer because it's there lively hood But this farmer has so much land and is very rich. There is still a lot of Deer there it's evident that the deer are still there the game camera pictures show this but all taken are at night 1AM They have been shot at so much that they only come out after shooting hours. I am between a rock and a hard place I really hate what he is doing and if it continues he will hurt the population to a point it will never recover
