I had in one of my post that my 50 cal had been loaded since Oct of last year.Well I took and shot it Tuesday no problem with firing and on the money. This rifle has allways shot very well and have gotten several groups an inch or less at 300 yds. I don't shoot it much because I have 2 45 calibers. Now I have all 3 set up for this years muzzleloading season which starts the laast week of this month. I had done this before but left it loaded from oct to march.it put 2 in the same hole(top circle) at 300 yds.Was using 4759 back then.this time duplex N110=15 grs and N130 -55 grs. This was the target at 300 yds and the 2 under it was Tuesdays results.

Certainly a keeper. With all the new innovations/calibers we do not hear much from the stock .50 Savage guys but for the money most still do very well.

For a deer hunter who kills everything inside 200 yds the sub bores have nothing on a stock Savage with .458 bullets in BCR sabots and a few good single powders out there.
If 150 yds or less you can do great with reduced loads and big heavy bullets at 1500 fps. Smashers on deer.
If paper and long range groups and shooting house sites are the norm, the new wave of 40 and 45's can't be beat by the stock Savage.

This was 250 sst's and short mmp sabots. I set one up for a fellow couple weeks ago and used the 250 sst with 43.5 grs 4759 and the harvester black crushed rib and it shot good in his.

I'm with you. I have two (1) SS & (1) Blue both with Synthetic Stocks. I got the Magwell Blocks, the 3rd Pillar Mushroom Head Escutcheons and Bolt Retention Knobs from Rossman40 and bedded them. I always wondered if I just got Lucky or that I shot so many rounds through them sabotless that it smoothed out the bores enough to make them as accurate as they are!

Great shooting Herman. I really liked mine too and I would not have sold it but I was into the .45 craze -- and am now into a .416 craze. I never had your accuracy. I hate to bear bad news, but for those newer members I would be xtra careful shooting super hot loads or to prevent double loading. There are claims that extreme pressure might create a barrel burst. All things being equal, for newer members who may not be as diligent about loading safety, I would replace the barrel with s Brux or other brand of heavy contour barrel from Luke.
