While they did not walk across the range in front of us today, we had 20, as best we could count, pecking thru the grass 75 yards behind our range house much of the morning. Weather today was 70* with rain, fog and drizzle all morning. NO wind! For a change from the H-4198 duplex’s I have been shooting, I thought I would try some H-322 which I know is somewhat slower. On a clean barrel I loaded 10/65 of Clays/H-322 under a 290 TEZ smooth sized (one hand seating). After the first fouling shot, it printed three in .894” at 2641 fps at 100 yards. For group #2 I switched to the 300 gr. SST with the same duplex. It averaged 2624 fps with a 14 fps ES and put three in .980” with all five going 1.6”. Great ES but poor five shot group. For #3 I went back to my tried and true 10/60 Clays/H-4198 duplex and the 290 TEZ which gave an average velocity of 2721 with a 15 fps ES. All in all, it grouped tighter. So 5 gr. less powder (H-322 vs. H-4198) and roughly 100 fps increase in velocity with better grouping and similar ES. Moving out to 300 yards I went with the 250 TEZ and the above 10/60 duplex. The first shot blew out part of the top of my frame as my elevation adjustments were off. Dialing my scope up and over to POI I fired a six shot group. With the exception of shot #3, the five shot group went 1.7” and the best 3 went .637” Other dimensions listed in photos. For the last group I went with the same combination only made an adjustment up and over………although the first two shots did not seem to reflect that?.....they wanted to go the opposite way. I was pretty sure I dialed the cross hairs left to the group which should have moved it right……….?? Or did I? So after putting two in the same hole, the third went way over to the right? Good hold, 32X NF scope, 2 oz. trigger, no wind (did not pull it)…….Hmmmm? Shot #4……..right where the first two SHOULD have went. #5 close by and #6 not too far away? Kind of a head scratcher but still managed four in a row under MOA Something else tried today which I use on my CF 600 yard BR rifle………hanging a leather shot bag on the receiver/barrel. This is kind of like a saddle bag. Leather and filled with 6 lbs. of shot. Keeps the rifle from jumping………Obviously not for hunting!............Though, with these fancy tree/stand/houses and a four wheeler? ? how to screen captureadult photo hostingupload a picture

Great report as usual Richard. The sandbags are an interesting touch this go round. Do they help much?
Looks like that new barrel is doing it's job!!!
Do you find that the little level 'do-dad' helps with accuracy??

The level is important when shooting long range. Your X-hair is like an eccentric. Unless it is perfectly centered in your scope, if your rifle is not always level, your POI will shift..........and more so as your range increases. In my BR rifles and rests, I have the rifle set so it is level with the rest............My rest, however, has a level on it. When I do my set up at a match, I just level the rest and know my rifle is also level since we use a wide flat forend and our front rest is also flat. Yes, the bag helps hold down the barrel on recoil and since the weight of the bag is over the bedded portion of the barrel, it does not effect accuracy or POI.

Well now you've done it, here's another toy I'll have to buy lol

I have the Vortex level. I took it off after a season though. I do like the looks of Nightforce's top ring anti-cant level! It doesn't look like a limb catcher.

Dave W. I agree that one looks interesting. Have you ever seen one in person? I have the vortex now I only have one eye. Is it easy to see at a glance?

Have not seen in person but there is youtube video of them if you look. I like the design and how the bubble is protected on this one. Couple people have mentioned they think the Accuracy 1st is not as sensitive to cant as a conventional bubble level. Flatline Ops seems to be highly regarded. I like the pricey one with the articulating arm since that would have a fail safe built in. If it is not reading level in both positions, you know something is askew. Also more chances of something going wrong with that one too.
