The first post can be found on page 3. Which shows the gun. It has a Green Mnt barrel. I have had some success with shooting sabots through the ported barrel. As long as you use the sub base behind the Orange sabot and a Hornady 300SST with 70grs of IMr 4198 accuracy was acceptable for most hunting situations. I could not get the Barnes to shoot as well.
I bought some 300ftx Hornady .500 bullets used in the 500Smith and Wesson. I used 50cal wool wads like I use in all my 45cal guns. The Green Mnt barrel is .500 so I hoped the bullets would fit without getting into making a sizing die. Luck was on my side. The bullets actually fit on the loose side. I gave them a slight knurl. Make a long story short they shoot very well. at 100 yards. I shot them out to 300 meters on our Silhouette targets. No problem getting to 300 meters. Accuracy was still good. Since the bullet is low on B.C. I held off shooting any further. That would be about this bullets max range. It would probably be a real deer stopper.
I did check the velocity and the most I could drive that bullet was 2620. Not bad but not nearly as fast as the 45cal with a much better bullet design.
As a lot of people know sabots and muzzle brakes just don't work. Yes once in a while you can get a group but its not consistent. For someone who wanted to stay with a 50cal gun this would be a possibility. But you would need to use a tight Green Mnt barrel. And unfortunately they don't offer this barrel in anything but a straight blank.

I set a buddy's dad's gun up to shoot those same bullets sabotless in his CVA .50 with BH209, does very well. They fit about perfect with no knurling, but most of the bergara .50s I've seen have been spot on .500 land to land.
Another option for a custom barrel maker with .500 land to land is Douglas. The one I have that SMI did is a great barrel that shoots lights out. They offer several contours, I believe.
