Turns out when doing large batches of bullets you need a lot of bullet trays, or a bullet tray and a lot of boxes as you go through different steps. I decided it was time to just make a bigger bullet tray or two so I took a break from bullet making today to make something to help speed the operation along: If you need one get a .75" thick piece of wood, a .5" drill bit, set your depth for .5" with the drill bit about 1/8" above the wood so you can transition from hole to hole, and space your holes .75" from center to center. This one holds 189 bullets and cost 1/3 of what 3 trays from MTM/RCBS/Frankford/etc. cost.

The bullets look great Keith! Just curious why the meplat cannot be tighter than .120? I know Widden makes a die to re-point BR bullets pretty small. They just have the look that a separate die could increase the BC? Heading up to Mike's this week to pick up my barrel.

I would have to go back through some e-mail to tell you exactly why the meplat had to be .120" but the long and short of it is that is what the die maker said the limit was. I know Whidden has pointing dies and at some point I am going to have one made because it might make an appreciable difference. It might be a project for Mike since the Whidden die is $220 in standard configuration much less what the one-off part would cost. I think a bushing to allow me to uniform bullet meplats on my on my Wilson trimmer and point them would be awesome but right now I have invested a ton of money and I need to make some before I invest any more.
I thought I might call Mike and head up to drop parts off. I have his 300gn bullets and my barrels/actions/reamer/etc boxed up and ready to go. I just need to drive up or mail it. Next weekend in a 3-day for me so I might see if I can make the trip.

The bullets look great Keith! Just curious why the meplat cannot be tighter than .120? SNIP. IMO, shrinking the meplat has its tradeoffs. Manufacturing a very small AND uniform meplat means a longer jacket, or lead tip and are also somewhat problematic opening on game. The easier way is for manufacturers to switch to tips with most being plastic, but I doubt you see many of those on the Target Circuit since tips add an element of imbalance to the bullet Berger is about the only bulk jacketed non tipped bullet with a very small meplat designed for hunting, most are relegated to the target shooters. edge.
