in a previous post, i described that i needed a load for my teenage daughter for the mule deer hunt. took "her" brand new remington muzzleloader out to the range today. it has the stock iron sights, the rear sight being a factory installed williams peep sight and the front sight is factory remington. note: we have to use iron sights in nevada.
so after shooting blackhorn 209 at 65, 70, 80, and 90 gr loads with the remington 250 accutips that come with the rifle, i decided from knowing what rifles she has shot before, to go with the 90 gr (volume) and the 250 gr accutips;
however, my question is this. my V2 chrono shows about 1810 fps with this combo. at 100 yds, with the rear sight pushed all the way up, the bullet is hitting about 14" low. i can't even zero it at a 100 yds. does that make sense to anyone. i am relatively new to muzzleloading.
i could really use some insightful opinions on this issue. like is there a problem or not? how the heck do you zero this gun in at 100 yds? thanks

If its shooting low, you have two options......... raise the rear sight or, lower the front sight. That may mean replacement of one or the other.

Is the Williams Peep sight also new? I'm guessing it did not arrive installed via the factory with the new Remington Ultimate. Did you possibly pick out the wrong peep? Is it exchangeable?

no, it is the factory peep sight. i edited my post to reflect that. it just does not seem right that remingtonwould sell a gun that can't be zeroed at 100 yds. but my question is, is my load a reasonable load? would a 150 gr load bring it up 14"?

I would remove the stock and check for high spots against the barrel. If it is tight against the wood you may have to relieve the pressure. I know the gun is new and you shouldn't have to do this but it wont hurt to check it out. Good Luck with the gun and on your hunt.

Call Williams Gun Sights in the morning and order a Shorter Front Fire Sight. Talk to Tech Steve he will help you.

Was Williams able to help you? Did they send you a Shorter Front Sight or Taller Rear Peep Sight. It appears this a common problem with this Rifle. Do a search for member Sgellis, I think he ended up shimming the Rear.
