I have been looking around and bolt knobs dot com has a lightweight carbon fiber variant. The bolt collar is melonite coated. Has anyone used one of these on their Savage?

Not really a big fan of extended bolt handles, just one more thing to break. Then one more thing to stab you in the back if you sling the rifle. It's just another piece of bling that looks "tacticool". Do you need it for the faster second shot,, on a ML,, really?? Do you need the extra leverage to help get out cases that were stretched by the hot loads or work the action because you let half the sand in Iraq get into the action? When people ask me about one for a Savage hunting gun I recommend the factory "BT" style, Large enough to be worked with gloves on and not too big to be a pain in the woods. And if you shop around they are only like $25

I had two handles done by ridgewaybodies on Accurate Shooter. I could not be happier. Much better then the large knob factory Savage IMO.

I was just looking for something that looked a little better. With all the fancy 700 bolts I've seen on here I kinda felt bad for my stock Savage bolt.

I believe all my SML's have tactical bolt knobs, I just like the look better personally. To each his own.

I tell customers with a real long tactical bolt knobs, never leave the bolt in the rifle when transporting in a case. I've seen them broke from throwing around in a soft case or drag bag. I've seen Savage bolt handles broke while the rifle is in a hard case during shipping. Nothing worse then to drive 4 hours to a range and then find out you broke the bolt handle throwing all the gear in the truck. Then of course there are the guys that will stick a case and use a piece of 2"X4" to try to pound open the bolt. I usually hear about 3-4 broke bolt handles a year. With a Savage no big whoop, buy another handle and your good to go after a few minutes. On a Remy it's going to cost you $60 just to have another handle welded on.

Savages are kind of ugly, I have a 210F so I can say that, and the bolts are a little on the small so side compared to how big they made everything else. A little larger knob looks better but it offers no functional advantage in an SML. I always pull my bolt for transport and shipping so there is no risk of breaking it.
