Got a new build in the works. Rem 700ML action, Brux barrel, muzzle brake, want to put together a rifle for stout loads. Looking at a Farrell or Murphy one piece base. Any thoughts on one over the other? The action is blued if that makes any difference.

I can't give an opinion on the two you mention but the Leupold Mark 4 base on my .416 is great at $62

I can tell you about Farrell. I have 2 sets of Farrell bases and rings. The one is on a savage 110E CF conversion and they were the only people I could find that made a 1 piece base for it. I had to have them mill the front of the base down so the bell would clear on the scope. They were more then happy to work with me and charged me like 25 bucks to do it and re coat the base, then ship it back. Every person I have talked to a Farrell has been a pleasure to talk to. There bases come with a bedding grove machine down the center, which I needed. The base had a little rock on the old action that some JB weld took care of. I'll buy from them again.

I have one of each, they both seem well made. Very heavy. Last time out I went with the Warne Steel 1 Piece base, honestly cant see much if any difference between the 3, except the Warne was a lil bit cheaper. I think any of those 3 are a good choice as well as the Leupy Omega pointed out.

I've used 4 Murphy bases and all worked well except for the fact that they weigh about two pounds. I'm ready to try one of the aluminum lightweight bases.

I'm going to try the Extreme Hard Core Gear base with the built in level for $99. They look cool anyway. Has anyone tried them?

I use all Murphy bases. But also they ALL are bedded. The Murphy acrews are a square shoulder on them . So this could possibly allow some movement... I understand the Farrel screws are tapered...thus stopping movement better. Personally I like SS on SS guns. I also believe in steel to steel whenever possible. But thats just me. Drop

I've used Murphy and they are nice but I tend to use Nightforce.

I use a 20 MOA Farrell on my ML-II. Works great.

Farrell or Murphy Base? Lincoln or Cadillac?
I have both, and both are holding up very well.
Suggestions for whichever you get:
Heavy Loads -- bed that base. Medium Loads -- bed that base. Light Loads -- bed that base!
I've put quite a few scopes on rifles of various makes, and I have yet to see a trued receiver in which there is absolutely no gap anywhere between base and receiver/action. May not be true with custom made actions, but very much so with Remmy's, Savages, Rugers, Marlins....

The main thing on the base is a full width cross slot when you get into the 3k ft/lbs of ME and higher. The Murphy and Farrell are pretty high which gives you more room to get to the primer but can also give you problems if you try to mount a short scope like a Nikon Omega. The objective bell will hit the mount when you get low.
Another thing to think about is the weight of the scope, rings and mount. If it goes in the 30oz range you should up to 8-40 screws. Over that my mount of choice is a Farrell G-Force.
