I went out this morning for a bit of testing with the RemPac Poly .40 that Cole put together for me, I haven't got to shoot this gun much yet but what I have learned is that it will flat out shoot the 200 SST's, I'm still searching for a good load for the 195 Barnes out of it. I had a bunch of groups around moa, some over and some under, nothing to get too excited about. So when I ran out of Barnes I switched to the 200 SST and figured I'd experiment with some new loads and see if any of them would shoot. The first two groups were just under moa and then I got to the last load of the day, here it was.. This was 3 shots, back to back. I forget what it measured, I had Dave measure it for me so he can chime in so I don't misinform anyone. It looks like another winning load for this gun, it has shot 3 groups similar to this with 3 different loads. This poly is a sweet gun and I really like the rifle basix trigger set in the ounces. Looking more and more like this will be my hunting gun, if Dave don't steal it...

I hope you "clicked" it to print 2" high at 100 yards ! I am just amazed at the groups that are being showcased here on Doug's . Great shooting and fine gun building . Chris

I always found the SSTs to be slightly more accurate than the Barnes but I never had a group like that. Excellent shooting. Both bullets will kill deer easily I have found.

These 40's shoot pretty good all around, these are the worst two groups I got shooting Poly today while testing different charges and the SST's. This 3 shot group was the best group from another 40 of mine while testing it today. Hard not to like the 40 cal IMO.

Those are fine looking groups for sure. I understand the importance of getting good consistent groups, but once that's done do you guys adjust the scope to hit the bulls eye at a given range, unless the shots were supposed to go where aimed at??

WOW, another one hole group from a sub caliber gun. The other groups are also great. Great shooting Guy. Now you need to take the Poly out some more and shoot it, but if you do not have the time to do it, just send it my way, and I will make sure she gets shot every Weds, and Sunday. Cole I want a Poly.

Right now it's all about testing different loads for groups, doesn't matter where it hits as long as it's somewhere on the paper so you can see it. Wouldn't pay to keep resetting the scope for every group shot, the scope would be wore out before it was over and done. Besides, if you click the scope too much, you'll end up with a nick name like "clicky". I have kept good documentation on every load we've tried, so I know which ones to pursue, and which ones to discard. Come fall when we decide on a final load for each gun, each one will be zeroed at 200 yards on a cold bore for hunting season. Besides, even all the good loads will need retested once the temps drop...

Thanks all, Poly is a shooter and a joy to shoot, it's a good handling gun at 23" and the rifle basix trigger is awesome. No more wondering if a polygonal twist barrel will work in a sml, it works... Cole's building some fine shooting guns for sure, glad I stole this barrel while he had it

OMG!!! Tack driver! Gun specs? Ignition? It's a rem ml conversion, .030 savage style bushing plug, 23" pacnor polygonal twist barrel 1-25" twist, boyds tacticool stock, dnz tactical mount, Weaver Classic Extreme 4-16x50, rifle basix 8 oz to 1.5# trigger. Nothing fancy, just made to hunt. I forget the contour of the barrel, but it's pretty stout....

WOW Guy..thats great shooting....that rig is a fine shooter...i wonder if the poly rifling is the key here beside the shooter..for SML rifles...you are the first to have one and seems like it can shoot ...you may start a trend now to get a poly gun built either sub cal or .45
Cole did a great job building it and this proves his rifles shoot...I bet you will see more Poly rifles in the future...

Al Al, I don't know that there is anything magical about the poly twist, I believe all the 40's shoot this good with the right load, the poly is just different and it works too, which we didn't know til now. I'm no top marksman from the bench either, that's for sure. I'd take carlos up on his offer and send it to him to try out, but then I'd really look bad... I do believe now someone only planning to shoot 200 sst's or 195 Barnes, or similar bullets, that the poly twist barrel is a good option, I hope we do see some more of them in the future. Thanks for the compliments guys, give Mr. Nice Guy the credit tho, he built it.

Thats some great shooting!! Your bad groups are darn good and the best is great. In my experience a sub caliber ml can make a sub caliber shooter look good. Some really good shooting on your part, and just shows that these .40's will shoot with about any thing that is put down the barrel.

Thanks Rob, I need lots more bench time to keep up with you, Carlos and Steve, but the 40's will be dialed and ready for season rest assured. I need to put a dust cover over the .45 or sell it..

Frankly I am amazed at the number of recent excellent groups with a variety of shooters and rifles. The game has really been stepped up.

Very impressive set of targets shown, if the deer cooperate you should have plenty of venison this fall edge.

I know there was some interest in the .40 years ago that didn't take off like it has now. Steve and Carlos made it look easy and some of us followed. I can say for sure that them two gents have made a better shooter out of me following in their foot steps shooting these .40's

I can say for sure that them two gents have made a better shooter out of me following in their foot steps shooting these .40's Rob thanks for the compliment, but it was all Steve's fault, He was the one who talked me into the 40 cal. way back. and I'm glad he did. and with the help from Dave D. who was really helpful with the info on how to go about it, i could have never done it. The 40 cal.'s have taken off, and as you mention, they will shoot just about anything you put down the bore. As far as I'm concerned they will out shoot any 45 cal. any day of the week, and yes they will shoot out to 600 yrds with no problems at all, I know I have done it. The next in line will be the .375 which I really have not pushed yet, but I will after the season is over with, and the one that I'm really looking forwards to is the .358/35 that is being built now, but it will be a while before is finished. Again great trigger pulling Guy, and you to Rob.
