Well its been a while but I finally made it to the range for a bit and got to pull the trigger on Poly 3 times. It's a 700ML conversion with a 23" .392/.400 Polygonal twist Pacnor barrel. Cole put it together for me and bedded it, duracoated everything flat black, added a rifle basix trigger, DNZ tactical mount, Weaver Classic Extreme in 4-16x50 (30mm). It has the hunter bolt nose conversion and a savage style .030 bushing plug. This gun is built pretty stout but shoulders very well with the Boyd's Pro Varmint stock, I can't wait to get the time to work up some good loads for this gun, it may just be my hunting gun if I can get it dialed in. Full forming these polygonal bullets is a new learning experience, but I think it's gonna be a shooter with a lil work. The range was very busy and we took 4 guns, so I only shot this one group with poly, and it was an untested load to boot, just still searching for different powder combos that will work in the 40's. I'll get it back out and do some more shooting soon, I fully expect it to end up sub moa. The load I tried for its maiden voyage was 10/55, N110/H4895, 200sst, Wool wad and a win primer. I've never tried this load out of any of my 40's, so I blame the group on load development... Here's the gun: Here's the first sml poly group (maybe and likely of all time, I don't know of any other Polygonal barreled SML's.)

Poly is pretty and looks to be a shooter! I'll have a report on "NEMESIS" soon. @ Cole!

Give Poly a cracker and maybe she'll do better next time.
Nice shooting.

It will definitely shoot if your first attempt did that good! Good luck with it.

Great shooting ohio with both guns, Poly, and Freddy. I think you shot Freddy better than Omega when he had it. Both guns shot great. You might want to try my pet load of 10/50, 4759/10X. This load is hard to beat. When you get tired of either gun send them my way, I will be more than glad to really break them in. Carlos

Thanks all, I'm really excited about this build, being a 1 of a kind, plus I really really like the feel and how this gun handles. I have high hopes for it with some further testing. I'm glad it started as good as it did, I'll try some known good loads and see what it does.

Steve, give Dave W a pm about ff sizing, indexing etc... he is a ff genius and has likely shot more ff rounds than anyone to this point that I'm aware of. He's where I get all my info from...

That sent me on a Google search. Very interesting. Nice looking gun along with Freddie's new look.

Wish you had tried N110/Varget in this one, still MOA with a new load is pretty good! Small load adjustment should tighten it up. Any pics of the full formed bullets side by side with a conventional rifled, full formed bullet for comparison?

Everything to the left or bottom in the last pic are traditional, everything to the right or top in the bottom pic is Polygonal. Sorry these were done from my phone so not the best quality. Hopefully everyone can distinguish the difference.

Give Poly a cracker and maybe she'll do better next time. Nice shooting. It's already a cracker, the short barrel makes her crack pretty good... I'm going to try to concentrate on the 195 barnes in this gun and see if I can get it to shoot them accurately. I'd like to push them 2700-2900 if I can do it accurately, if I can, this gun will be in the woods. We shall see..

Carlos Went to the range this evening for a bit and took poly, I gave Dave the honors of trying your pet load of 10/50, 4759/10X with a 200SST, Wool wad and Win primer. He did ok I guess, even tho this shoulda been a 4 shot group and woulda been a pretty good one, if had he not aimed at the wrong target once, that bullet would have been right in this cluster too. Here's Dave's target. Poly is gonna be a keeper for sure, good shooting Dave and no you cant have it...

What were the velocities Guy? Like to compare them to Carlos' recent post with that load. Looks like that load might be a compatible in various .40s. The poly barrels supposed to shoot faster than conventional rifling?

The poly barrels supposed to shoot faster than conventional rifling? 2851 was the 4 shot average speed last night 10/50, 4759/10X out of Poly. Some places I've read they produce more speed, some places say not much difference, but 2851 seems to be faster than what Carlos got even with 10/52 IIRC. Pretty good out of a 23" barrel....

It's just a difference between two chronys. I believe Rob and Carlos ran theirs side by side or compared data and were 100fps apart. Rob gets in the 2800's with his 10/50 4759/10x duplex.

Guy great shooting with Poly, in my book is as close to a one hole as you can get. Funny you guys talking about the difference in speed using the same load out Poly, and my new 40 cal. Rob and I were talking about that today. So here is what I know so far and I might be wrong. My first 40 cal. is a .392/.400 for full form bullets, and the one I used the other is .400/.408. Using the same load of 10/50 with 10X, in the full form I get speed around 2850, and all I got the other day using a 10/52, but with a smooth sized bullet was 2767. So as far as I can tell the gun using the full form for some reason get more speed out of the same load. Don't ask me why, but it is a fact. Maybe the full from bullet seals better. So if I'm wrong about this please let me know. One more thing Guy, when you get tired of Poly let me know. I got good home for her.

Cross sectional area is a little different from .400 to .408 groove and over the length of the powder column it makes a little difference on quickload calcs. I checked once and it was 3-4k psi difference from a .400 to .408 iirc so less pressure should produce less speed using the same powder. My best guess on it.

Wasn't too sure about this build at the start because of the Polygonal twist and also being a 1-25" twist. First off wasn't sure how well the poly twist would work in our SML applications and second the twist is a little slower than most other proven 40's out there, but none the less we decided to go for it and give it a whirl. So far I'm glad we did, I wanted a compact 40 for hunting and this was gonna be my chance. It shoots round holes, and both groups shot out of it so far look promising, so I think it's gonna be a great lil hunting package. It has the lighter Rifle Basix trigger in it and I'm not exactly sure the #age it's set on, most likely ounces I mean.. but I like it. The 4-16X50 WCE is a nice fit on it to round it off. Cole did a nice job with it for sure. Thanks for all the compliments on it, I look forward to shooting it and the other 40's as well to see which one wins the title of, gun of choice this fall. These 40's are great! Thanks Omega for turning me on to them!
