Finally got some Barnes 250GR TEZ's along with another lb. of 4759. Now it's a waiting game for this heat wave to subside.
The bullets look good, hope they shoot as good as they look.

great bullets your going to love them!
And your right about this heat, I wanted to shoot on my lunch break. Took 2 steps to my truck and said no way!
And that sure is a unique Muzzleloader in the back ground...

Wimpy, Wimpy, Wimpy! Do you stop hunting in the winter because its cold? C'mon on down Richard and we'll see how long you last in it The barrel heat is the issue to be serious about it.
Some of us don't have the luxury of heated and cooled shooting booth/s. I envy you.

What combo are you starting with those TEZ's? Zen

My son shoot the 290gr TEZ .451 and loves them real deer killers! We shoot them unsized in a 45 McGowen Stevens 200.

I'd like to start out with 10/50 of SR4759/IMR4198. Bullets sized to a medium one handed push down the barrel using a .060 veggie and Win primers.
I may order some of the 290's as well depending on how these perform.

Anyone have a 290gr. they could send me for fit test in my barrel. I have a Slufoot conversion on a TC Custom Shop 45-70 and would like to see if I could shoot these sabotless/unsized.

I would if I did, but don't have any TEZs of any weight at the moment. Which bullets are you shooting now? Do they fit well unsized?

Send some of them bullets to Cowhunter...he can get us a reading.on them. We got the same weather as he does all summer long. I would.offee ...but its.only 82' here right now...and it wouldnt be a good comparison for the Kentucky shoot...plus.the fact.that I would make national headlines for shooting while here at work Drop

I would like to try the 290gr TEZ sabotless. I just don't want to spend the $ for a pack and find they are too tight or too loose.

I'm getting to be an old man waiting for Rambler and Cowhunter to post anything that resembles a target? Forget those thermometer pictures and do some shooting! Use a "cool rod" if you want to keep barrel temp's down? We have gotten past the "warm barrel/sabot thing" so that excuse is down the drain? Without going too far, you get my point! Richard

getting to be old??? besides the age you are seriously crotchety, if that's a word. Your getting those 250's today so it's gonna be just fine I don't have a cooling rod, and without me going too far, this child ain't going out in this %$&@'ing heat I realize we are just messing with each other, but dude it would be impossible for anyone with any cooling equipment to shoot a mz outside here. I"m jonesin' to shoot some as bad as anyone. When it cools down I'll post some of my attempts at target shooting. Sorry for any inconvenience Richard.

Dickie was once the worlds premier benchrest shooter, you will never compare Steve. Why try! With the only exception of sighting in and trying new loads I'm not a bench rest shooter, never claimed to be. I deal in real time situations and only compete with myself. He just want's me to try out those 250TEZ's. An inch either way and the deer will never know the difference.

" Dickie " is STILL a world premier benchrest shooter ! Back in his home state is name is still mentioned with respect . Someone at my gun club leaves Precision Shooting magazines from the 70's for us youngsters ( under 70 ) to read . Our very own Richard's name and great shooting scores are more that often at the very top of the list . Would not want to shoot in a match against him ... not on my best day . Back in the day New Jersey produced some World Class shooters ... Dr. Palmissano of the PPC fame , Geza Nagy , Bob White to name a few . Richard was lucky enough to escape . I'd put my money on richard , edge or dave d at any muzzleloader shoot !!! Chris

Richards expertise at benchrest shooting is certainly irreproachable. Where the notion came that I could "compare" to him is beyond me. Just some underlying schadenfreude I guess

Thanks for your kind words Chris. Its a shame most hunters, shooters and gun people in general have not had the experience of attending a real bench rest match---whether short or long range. They would be amazed at the useful tips they could pick up. Believe me, I had been there and done that and got hooked on precision. I was amazed at the size of the groups I saw shot and wanted to be a part of it. This muzzle loading is just another extension of that passion and I try to inject some of what I have learned in CF with the muzzle loader.

we have record temperatures in Hawaii. The humidity is 300 percent. Lucky we have trade winds. What did Barnes call the 250 grain all-copper bullets with the little boat tails? spitfire? I wonder if they shoot as well as the TEZ? I should send you a few to test. Back when I shot a .50 cal Savage I stocked up on them.
