What do the modern day shooters think about LUBRICATING SABOTS?
There are several shooters who believe that if you have a hard loading sabot/bullet, that lubricating the sabot with WD-40, bore butter or another lubricating compound, will not hurt the rifle's accuracy, consistency or longer range capabilities. They have read that even if you lubricate a bullet, that its IMPOSSIBLE for the bullet to NOT spin exactly with the sabot on ignition.
IMO, lubrication of sabots should be avoided, and the use of a proper fitting sabot/bullet combination is best. Lubricating with WD or other lubricants could contaminate the propellant and possibly impede bullet spin within the sabot, thus the possibility of poor grouping, heavier fouled bores and poor performance.

If you put the bore butter on thin, by the time the tight-fitting sabot is seated, nothing should remain to impede with accuracy. If you are worried about it after seating, then run a dry patch after loading the grunt-attached sabot/bullet, to relieve any residue on the bore walls.
Bullet-makers like Barnes only mentions this practice, knowing their bullets are often subject to complaints on tough loading. They never mention that the bore should be saturated with bore butter first, then start the bullet downward. That's not what is implied on their FAQs page.
I do not use sabot lube. But my hunting partner sure does and he shoots XTP sabots / bore butter walls very accurately to 150 yards. I salute him......... for his practice is not something I preach.

Not lube needed for sabots in any of my rifles. Unless its an orange .458" sabot! Then its a stainless steel range rod in order to get them down.

Me either. Just sayin' it does work for those I've seen apply lubrications to either the bore or sabot. My hunting buddy's deer shot was measured at 152 yards. He said the bullet entered right where he aimed. His bore is loaded with bore butter and has been for the past 12-13 years-or-so. Another part-time partner just lubes his sabots. He usually gets two deer every year. He only hunts ridges too.
If the stuff didn't work and I would never endorse the lubricated bore or sabots-scene, companies like T/C, CVA and bullet companies like Barnes woudln't include things like Bore Butter in their FAQs discussions. Personally, I threw out all my Wonderlube and Bore Butter squeeze containers. I only keep the prelubed 2-1.2" bore butter patches laying around my ML accessories box. I suppose a day will come when I grease a bore with it, for experimenting is what we do around here. When I get bored, I change things around....... powder, bullets, oils, cleaners and even prelubed patches.
