Just a friendly reminder that we need to be careful how we package plugs when they are shipped with a barrel or gun. I have recently come up with four missing plugs and bushings that probably got dumpstered Two were in with a rifle I shipped and two with barrels I received. I know on both occasions the plugs were probably wrapped up to protect the guns that where included in the shipment but they need to go in a large plastic bag or something to make them stand out amonst the wadded up newspaper everyone uses. Not putting blame on anyone but myself I just thought at 4 x $105 it was worth mentioning

Cole ...get some small prescription bottles and put the plug inside an wrap the bottle in some bubble wrap an tape to the barrel...use the painters tape...all my spare plugs I keep in them bottles an labeled...so when shooting if i need to replace from being dirty I have spares..

I was just thinking the same about taping the plug to the barrel, but I was going to wrap it first instead of the pill bottle. Good idea. Or try to get all the small parts wrapped together and taped to the barrel. I have seen small accessories get lost in the packaging many times. The worst was when manufacturers would shove small parts into the packing foam and not include an 8.5 x 11 packing letter telling of the covert packing of the items.

A bill of lading or a note with all contents contained would make it easy for both parties, customer and builder, to avoid similar incidents.

Another thing I learned the hard way, do not ship breech plugs in a soft sided package. I sent my first BP off to fishawk and UPS' conveyor ate my package and lost the plug. That was a pain. I go standard 6 dollar box thru USPS now. Pack and tape the fire out of it too.

I have almost thrown things I ordered out a few times....the small parts..sometimes its mixed in the brown packing paper the use..or under the bubble wrap on the bottom of the box to cushion the item...you have to really check things when you recieve it ...they like doing a Houdini with small bags of parts...hide them every where

A problem with shipping gun parts is how do you disclose them?
If you say there are gun parts enclosed then they will be stolen, if you declare a value then they may be stolen. I guess take a picture of metal parts and insure the package..will you get paid...probably not but you can bitch about it on the Net!

In doing this for 4 years, I have yet to have anything stolen. Damaged in shipment, yes. At least when shipping online, there's no requirement to disclose the contents to insure them. I don't know if it really matters, but I try to avoid anything firearms related on the box. I even abbreviate my business name to ASG LLC instead of Arrowhead Sporting Goods LLC in the return label.

He crowned a barrel for me last year and when he sent it back that thing was wrapped to the gills with gorilla tape. I had to get out the utility knife and whittle away for half an hour. Definitely bomb proof

If you remember right they still almost lost that thing! No kidding it was a nightmare. The barrel was packed awesome but they delivered it to another small town, I had to go there and get it.
Moral of the story, insure your stuff. They will require a receipt. UPS took about 6 weeks to finally reimburse me for the lost breech plug.

Luke my point is if you don't disclose what is in the package then how do you recover for what is lost!
If I say I am shipping a pipe fitting and the package is broken what am I claiming on insurance without breaking the law...it certainly is not a pipe fitting if they find it 6 months later???
edge.

I always list gun parts as "close tolerance machined parts". I think that fits the parameters. Haven't had anything stolen or lost yet. I like to re-use auto parts boxes. Just my way. 10 ga

I avoid shipping USPS like the plague.....UPS is expensive. But I FEEL more reliable. I checked last time I was at the post office and they Will accept long guns as long as they are going to an authoriEd FFL liscensed person. I'm in Illinois. But again I don't trust their service. My machinist said I do the best packaging he has ever seen...lol I live "OverKill" Drop

If I say I am shipping a pipe fitting and the package is broken what am I claiming on insurance without breaking the law...it certainly is not a pipe fitting if they find it 6 months later??? edge. It's picture of the damaged item, picture of the damaged box, and an invoice showing value of part. I've gotten paid quickly whenever I've had a claim, but they haven't been large dollar amounts. I'm sure they get more resistive the higher the payout. I'm sure there's plenty of people that try to game the system. Cole must have bad luck because in 4 years I've yet to have the USPS loose anything. As some of you may recall, they even sent me 2 boxes of 310 APB's that cowhunter lost in the mail because he had failed to tape the box shut. Cole, now that I think about it... Cowhunter didn't remember to use tape. Are you remembering to put a label on your box?
