I bought my dad a 45-70 Encore barrel and had it converted. Loading pressure for HLB with shockwave 200 is over 90 pounds, I've already snapped a ramrod. Crush rib and s still over 75 pounds. The Barnes 195 and crush rib is 68. I'm a big guy and can get it loaded, but there's no way my dad can. Anybody have any ideas?

Resize your bullet smaller.

Are you not interested in sabotless? If you went the sabotless route you could size the bullet small enough you wouldn't have an issue. Now if all your going to shoot is sabots then you might look into a 40 cal sizing die. However if your getting a sizing die then I'd just do away with the 40 cal and shoot 45 sabotless. Shooting sabotless is allot more forgiving in the long run.

I have a .40 die coming, I will just size him some down. Dad is up and age and really isn't into this stuff like I am.
I'd rather him stay with sabots. Has anyone had any luck with JB bore paste alleviating the load pressure a bit?

how much was the barrel shot? could it just be plastic fouling? I would try a good chemical bore scrubber and give it a good go around and try again

I had it converted so it had never seen a sabot till I pushed one through it with the plug out on a scale. It's crazy tight now, I know it will get tighter once it's fouled.

Have you tried other sabots than the Hlb...There might be one that will work for you....If not size down the bullet like you are setting up for...

I would fire lap it using 451 cal lead bullets.Look up a load for 45 Long Colt using Trail Boss on the Hodgdon loading sight.
