Got tired of messing with the factory stock and put a pepper laminate Boyds thumbhole, with Pachmayr recoil pad, on the .45 McRem
I installed aluminum pillars/bedded the action
I'm pleased with how it turned out, my first attempt at this type of work, a few small 'oooops' but all good learning lessons.
I got the pillars from Rossman40 (thanks again!) Still have to clean up the trigger guard area til its neat and tiddy
My bedding job turned out fairly decent, the action seems to have a good fit. I was nervous as heck pulling it out of the stock the first time, I thought I glued my action to the stock but after a wiggle here and there, it popped right out
Finally got to the range this morning, light winds, 60*F, cloudy skies, I took the scope off for the stock work so the first shot was the fouler/sighter
200gr SST knurled
Harvester Light Blue Sabot
60gr IMR4198 weighed
W209 primer
100yds (taped holes from a 50 cal smoker) had my 3rd shot go high :huh?: , shooter error, 5 shot group
Next up were 250gr TEZs knurled
70gr IMR4198 weighed
W209
100yds
The two lowest holes were most likely me experimenting with knurling pressure, I gave them a heavy knurl, when I went back to what I felt was a light to moderate knurl, the shots went back into the group, 6 shots (3 and 5 the lowest)
Recoil with this load was stout but the stock soaked it up well (rifle weighs 11 lbs). I think thats as fast as I want to push the TEZ, next range trip will be to work on my knurling technique. Thanks to everyone who posted 'how to' on bedding and load info., your time and effort is much appreciated!!
