I have it on my RemPac. I really like it a lot. The only thing I would change is having external tactical style turrets. But that can be changed by buying a custom set from vortex. I have shot out to 600 yds and achieved .5 MOA groups. For the money it's hard to beat. Very clear through the entire range of magnification.

Also I should note that the clicks seem to be very accurate. I shot a doe at 375 yds last year, dialed up the MOA required and impact was exactly the same a POA.

Don't know anything about that model but what I do know is the bdc reticle is a thinner reticle than the v-Plex. I like my vortex viper however the v-plex crosshair on mine is thicker than I'd like but still works great.

I had that same scope on my Sav-Pac... It worked well through a couple hundred shots that I put through it and is working well with the new owner. Tracked well and held up on heavy loads..That's a good price..Paid a hundred more for mine.

On another note...I bought another Vortex Viper to put on my new build...Similar scope but it only lasted less than 100 shots before it broke...Just got it back...customer service is great, hope it holds up.. Zen

I have not made a decision on it yet, wanted to get a real world feel on its quality and reliability. Bowhunter 1661.......Your saying you DO NOT like the external turrets? For me, I personally like external adjustments as I am only using it for target shooting. I know it is in the lower price range for a scope with its features but then I have been impressed with some scopes from BSA that I use on my AR .223, AR 300 Bladk Out and my PVP air rifle so you never know? Optics have come a long way and I would not doubt most all of these scopes today are built under the same principals. One might have somewhat brighter optics or slightly clearer but target shooting during daylight hours, a lot of this is unimportant?. The main thing is that the internals hold POI. Thanks for the responses and keep them coming......good or bad as I will hold off on any decision for a few days. Richard

I have a Vortex Viper, and IMO, I'd spend $100 more and buy a Weaver Super Slam Euro 4-20x50 (30mm) at Natchez, no questions asked. just my opinion tho...

Natchez no got anymore? I guess its a discontinued model. Some of the ones I did check out were way more than an extra $100. They wee more in the 600 to 700 range..............Did not want to go there I thought the $329 was a pretty good deal?

Bummer, didn't realize they were out of stock.. Not downing the Vortex, I like mine even tho its not their top of the line model, mine is the HS model but just thought the Weaver was easily well more than $100 better. When they had em The Vortex probably isn't a bad deal at that price. I believe that's about what I paid for mine (4-16x50) on sale at Cabelas.

I have the viper hs 4-16x44 and only shot a dozen rounds so far tracking seemed pretty good but that's only at 100 yards. With the Nikon I have I thought tracking was pretty good also until I started shooting longer ranges then it didn't seem right to me however I'm still new to target style turrets.

Richard, I would call Natchez and see if the expect more in. The Super slam on sale is a steal on a great scope. I have a Vortex Viper PST FFP but it has seen only a little use so I have no real opinion yet.

If a deer presents itself while walking to the stand I don't wanna have to unscrew a turret cap to dial up its yardage. You can order custom ballistic matched turrets for that model straight from vortex for less than $100

I am big on the Weaver Classic Extremes for hunting. That said I have a Weaver Super Slam in a 1 inch tube with the 4-20x50mm with the fine crosshair and a small dot, I think 1/4 minute dot. I think it was around $475. I shot it about 5 times and took it off. The reason, nothing wrong with the scope I think if used on paper targets. The cross hair was so fine and dot so small for varmints I think it would be lost against a dark crow or in the twilight so off it went. So it sits there, if I get a more dedicated bench gun perhaps it goes back on.

I've got a Weaver Super Slam 4x20 50mm also..Haven't had a chance to make a real comparison between it and the Vortex...The turret system on the Vortex is a better system...Seems to be sturdier built and has more moa adjustment....The Weaver is a little clearer at higher magnification...Both are good scopes for the money. I have both the weaver classic extreme and the super slam euro .. (both 30mm tubes) (the classic is 6-24 and the SS is 6-20) I feel the same way about hunting with the super slam. The crosshairs are super fine and might get lost in low light. For targets the super slam will be tough to beat. Very impressed with the glass and i think it compares with my sightron III. I have the classic extreme on my hunting rifle and have the german lighted reticle. Very good scope also, but not quite the quality IMO of the super slam. Both have held up to hundreds of very high recoil loads with no issues. (knock on wood). I have some vortex scopes as well but they are cheaper models. (crossfire II) so I can't compare those to the viper or these weavers. I hope Natchez gets more of the weavers though as I wanted to order another myself. I love the zero reset dials!!

I'll second the weaver scope vote Bestill, I think I remember you bought a Vortex recently and you were happy with it. I see now your vote would be for the Weaver. What changed your mind about the Vortex?

I really like the vortex features but after nationals shooting in all kinds of weather conditions. The eyebox on vortex is very tight at max magnification and mirage was very visible. I shot the vortex and friend blake shot weaver super slam. And head to head i would pick weaver. They both track extremely well. Weaver glass is better than new vortex hst Buy my next scope will be weaver. Only complaint with weaver is lack of minutes of travel and 30 mm is only first focal plain.

They are a decent scope, but i had a hard time using it above 12 X because of mirage and a narrow field of view.Camera land has these on sale quite often for under $300.00 with free shipping.

Thanks for all the input. At $581.00 for the Weaver at SWFA, it is more than I really want to spend on a non-competition scope. So, I bit the bullet this evening and ordered the Vortex.................We will see! It is supposed to be here on Friday and if so, I will have it on the Brux next week. Thanks again Richard

I had the vortex 6.5-20 for a few years. Bought it from camera land for I think $250 and it even had a lb of coffee in the box! Never had anything to compare it to but I loved it... Tracked well and held up to my abuse as well as my rempac with heavy loads. I'm sure there's a lot better but I was certainly satisfied. Looking forward to your report next Tues!

All good information. Its not like its a fortune. People have bought Zeiss and had problems along with other notable brands. Sounds like there service is good and that counts a lot. If there is a problem and it does not get corrected in a reasonable length of time, I will be sure to broadcast my dislike. Word of mouth can be the difference in a company making it or going broke. I really love my Leupold fixed 16X MK IV but want a little more power and the ability to work the BDC/mil dots along with the power setting rather than always clicking the turrets to change POI.
