I just noticed today that my SS Factory Replacement Barrel is Stamped 10ML-BP instead of 10ML-II! I am guessing this was for the Cabelas Special Edition? Savage replaced the original because it was oversized at .5045". The paperwork says it was Proof Tested. Does anyone know if they are the same? Should I be concerned about using Warm Smokeless loads in it? Does anyone know what is involved in their Proof Testing?

I wonder if Savage sent a barrel for Black powder and thats what BP stands for...Savage is still involved in some liability cases ..you should call and ask before you do any smokeless loads..just to feel secure...

I choose to remain silent on the subject. I would call Savage and request a barrel stamped ML-II, that way if something happens they can't claim you were using smokeless powder in a barrel designated BP/subs.

If it is a 10ML-BP barrel it should be 26" long.

Ken, it is the Standard 24" Length. I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I saw it today when I was glueing in the nice Mag Well Blocks you sent me. I'm wondering if my request for the smallest Bore resulted in the BP Barrel?

There has been a couple of lawsuits from blow-ups over the years. IMO usually the result of double loads which the user swears he didn't do and is not at fault. Ambulance chasing lawyers love cases like that, they hope that if they press long enough the company/defendant will offer a out-of-court settlement just to make the hassle go away. A lawyer on contingency is like a pitbull, once they clamp on it's hard to shake them off. From my experiences with liability cases there are professional "expert" witnesses that will say anything you want and the better job they do on the stand gets them more money and repeat gigs. So it comes down to whose expert/s gives the best performance.
I know BadBull had a lawsuit pending at one time, never heard the results.
