What a roller coaster. Hard to believe this has dragged on this long. If you had 1,100 bear hunters and their dogs this would have been over in 24 hrs. A poster with a "dead or alive" statement written on it on every street corner. 100 million leaflets dropped in the area with the same info. A public bounty.
Got to love and respect the efforts of law enforcement but these guys are not prepared for the chase that has gone on for 3 weeks!! It is sad.
It was said that Cuomo insisted that drones should not be used even though they were close by and ready for deployment! During initial press conferences, only the NYS Police were allowed to be seen by cameras and other agencies had to leave the room! He wanted to be able to take personal credit for the capture/kill/end game.
Cuomo is the worst politician, most dangerous politician, we've had in my lifetime. He signed the SAFE ACT in the middle of the night. We all woke up to a crazy new law we had no idea was even in the making.
Anyhow, looks like 1 guy shot dead and 1 guy on the run. The guy on the run put 22 bullets in a cop and then ran him over in order to get him to where he was imprisoned. Hope he gets a face full of 55 gr FMJ's at close range. Or a few 12 guage fosters to the sternum. Whatever. I don't want to feed his mouth for the next 30 years. 1 million per day in costs for 21 days is enough!
Hopefully the next breaking news is a 2nd dead escaped murderer.

So the autopsy report came out on Matt. He was DRUNK and SICK. Took 3 rapid, semi-auto rounds to the head. His body and feet full of sore, blisters and insect welts and his coughing gave him away. At least he went down with a good buzz on. Dumb a$$. And his buddy is still out there somewhere eluding everyone. Or maybe not?
My wife thinks he has already killed himself. Interesting suggestion. I mean you are in serious trouble now. Your boyfriend is dead and there is no one to watch your back if you need some sleep. You can't move at will and try to get food. If you are carrying a stash of food, it won't last very long. The bugs are fierce....it's been raining real bad and you are miserable. You know it's over. What are you going to do? Wait until just before winter and stroll into town looking like a zombie? There is no good way to "blend in" in his condition. Plus, everyone is looking for you OUTSIDE the perimeter as well. A bullet to the underside of the chin, on your own terms, might seem comforting right now.
Or, maybe he is very sick too. Or very badly hurt and can't move....or is succumbing to Lyme disease. That would be awesome! A nice miserable death during a dark night in a cold rain storm. Find the guy with a bear hovered over his rotting carcass unraveling his innards. I would pardon the bear in that case....maybe even let him finish his supper and go back later for a quick DNA confirmation. LOL
Bottom line is nobody knows. As poorly as the search has gone in terms of putting some real tools to work, the cops with boots on the ground are doing a good job. Civilians have been kept safe so far and none of the troopers have taken a bullet. (I am out in rural Western NYS, 300 miles away, and guys from the local barracks have gone up there!)
The only chance it seems that these guys could have killed some cops was when they cornered Matt. BUT, he was drunk, sick and ultimately stupid.....gave in to the liquor. The tactical officer didn't take ONE chance and ended it after giving a very brief chance to let the guy surrender. Great work there. Make sure you and your guys go home to your kids and not be maimed or killed by one of these losers.

Being in the area this happened I had the same thought... Put up a "dead or alive" with more than the measaly $100,000 they offered and they would have had their dead bodies dragged into town in just a few days. The search was pretty dissapointing and Cuomo further proved what a dumbass he is. Over 1000 officers, helicopters, infrared, k9's and dog the bounty hunter...still took over 3 weeks?

And....even though they got him...they lucked into him. A veteran trooper just happened to see him. He wasn't chased down by a plan, or a strategy or a pack of dogs or a infrared camera or a drone.
Then it even got luckier. The guy tried to out run a lone trooper in a wide open field and was doing well. Almost made it across the field to the woods where nothing but forest and 1-2 miles separated him from Canada. But this veteran trooper, 21 years I think, and a weapons instructor of some sort, stopped, drew his pistol, probably a Glock .40 and squeezed off 2 shots offhand at probably considerable distance and connected both times center mass. WOW. Out of breathe, under gunned for that type of shot and he made 'em both. Very impressive....can't wait for the details on the distance of those 2 shots.
Without that action, there's not much doubt that it would have become an international manhunt and a Canadian Mountie would have taken him down and Cuomo would have been completely smeared.
Between the shoddy prison system and a police force that was basically not effective here, this was a big $hit show.
We live in the middle of many high profile large prisons. Look up Attica and Groveland to name a few. All within 20 miles or so. Not to mention the numerous county prisons. If anyone escaped those places and had a 7 hr head start I could expect one or more desperate escaped murderers at my door step any minute at any time. That's why it's important to be prepared to protect yourself and your family every second wherever you are. If you can carry a concealed weapon, do so all the time. People I know that know how often I carry have called me paranoid before. I always say, no...not paranoid. Prepared. So many people on the news were "arming themselves" over this event...especially the locals. Why wait for danger to be advertised on the new? By that time it may be too late.

The trooper that got him, like you said, certainly lucked into him. Just driving from one checkpoint to the next when he happened to see him. Even though he was almost to the boarder in an area where there's not much of a boarder, I'd hope there was a good perimeter of people along the area. I know the area you say you're in and there are a lot of prisons there. Even as secluded as I am there's plenty around here. Less than 2 miles to camp Gabriel's which closed a few years ago and about 10-15 from a federal and state which are literally next to each other. Danamora is the next closest with a lot of woods, hills/mtns between. Prepared but not paranoid
