Looks good! Is this a service you provide or Harrell's?

I do this out of my shop.
Harrell's is my day job.
I charge $35 per bolt plus S&H for standard fluting

Dennis,
Mighty good looking work and a very fair price...may just have to have a fluted bolt.
Nice work,
Mike

Does this have to be done prior to installing the bolt handle, or can you do it with handle installed?

Dennis...............nice to see you on Doug's. As soon as I can get another bolt together to use in my ML'er, I will send you the one in my latest build. BTW, I put your little know on the new build. Question? How fast can you turn one around? Its nice of you to support Tony Stewart and his partner Gene Haas by getting one of his machines............ Turnaround time right now?
This is best case scenario.
I check my PO Box on the way home.
If there's a bolt in there that just needs to fluted, I stop at my shop and do the deal.
Box it up and hit the kiosk for some postage and toss it in the mail chute.
Thats a best case scenario.
Other than that, most of my work is done over the weekend and mailed on Monday.

Dennis.............. I would kind of like to see one done on the Rem. ML'er bolt with the bolt stop raceway. It would seem the 120 pattern might be the pattern might need to be the one to work with in order to maintain the integrity of the cam? Unless that is, if you can interrupt the flute in that area? I might have to talk Ken into being a test subject.

Rochard I'm pretty sure mine is interrupted. I'll check tomorrow. Can't tell any different when the bolt is closed. I think fishhawk micro welded the bolt nose on as well and had the flutes run into that a bit as well.

Yeah, I can do that. I wasn't sure if the flutes should extend onto the snout of the bolt or not.
That bolt is made different than the one I have in my shop.
The fluted bolt above, looks like its all one piece.
The one I have is two pieces. It has a snout on the end of the bolt body and is slightly smaller in diameter.

That's a Hunter bolt nose, should be the same as what you have. I think it was micro welded and smoothed out before it was fluted. If you look super-close on the pic that shows the whole raceway, you can see the hairline seam in the flute divot near the end.

The welded on bolt nose looks nice..................but?..........if you should get much in the way of pitting around the firing pin hole and want to replace the bolt nose, you are in to a major FUBAR? My bolt nose on the Rem/Pac after some 3600 shots had its share of pitting from various breech plugs, hot loads, loose primers etc. So when I sold the gun with the new Shilen barrel, I got a new nose from Hunter, removed the old nose and put on a new one. Richard I doubt I'll ever need to remove it, it's a Blackhorn 209 gun and has about 60 shots on it (3 years). If something crazy happens, I figure fishhawk or Cole could figure a way to get it off. You'd also want to reflute the nose I guess. I just don't see most people firing enough rounds to toast a bolt nose. You are definitely a 1 %er.

I "V'd" the joint of the bolt and nose before welding, then blended the weld. The guy that milled the flutes charged me $150 but he was not setup for fluting bolts nor a gun type shop. I only did two of these, if I done another, I would open up the "V" more and explain to the welder that voids are bad. Then I would send it to Dennis for fluting.

Wow, neat looking stuff. I love the eyecandy.
However testing needs to be done to see if fluting barrels and bolts can attract bambi mommy/daddy and what ratio of mommy/daddy response there is. We know it attracts SML/rifle/hunting addicted daddys easily. Response of females in company of the addicts needs testing also. So much to do and so little time. LOL, hope all are getting ready for the August shoot. 10
