As most of you may know I will be hosting a fall Kentucky Challenge. Starting August 14th-15th-16th, 2015. This event originally called The Ultimate Muzzleloader Challenge was intended and directed towards other manufactures for muzzle loading rifles to bring their rifles to the shoot to prove their ignition system and accuracy of their rifles. Well to make a long story short I did not get one single other manufacture to show to back up their claims.. What I did get was a bunch of people (members) from Doug's Board to show up. Most of these guys built their own rifles. Each and everyone of them were great guys...
Originally called the Ultimate Muzzleloader challenge,,,, a member from Doug's that you all know (hillbill) said in a post that he was going to the "KENTUCKY CHALLENGE" and from that day on it has been called The Kentucky Challenge.
At the first Kentucky Challenge I had 18 shooters and 5 non-shooters to attend. None of these guys knew what to expect, all they knew was they wanted to go, so they went. Most of these guys had been messaging each other on Doug's Board for years but never met, so at the first Kentucky Challenge they were all brought together for the first time. We shared names, ideas, experiences, stories, memories and much more. I believe that every one of them was glad they came and I want to thank each one of them for attending and helping brake the ground for this new event that is different from any other. We all went home with many new friends.
At the second Kentucky Challenge we had 20 shooters and a few non-shooter to attend, There were sever new faces and a some old ones as well,,, so at the third Kentucky Challenge I will be wanting to see some more of you guys show up and have a three day weekend of shooting, eating and just good clean fun..
The members from Doug's Board are what makes these shoots such a huge success and with out them there would not be any more shoots.. Hats off to you guys.
For those of you who may be new to Doug's Board and don't know what the Kentucky Challenge is: It is a three day weekend dedicated to shooting Muzzle Loading rifles only. Any muzzleloader is welcome. from an old flintlock with black powder to the most advanced modern day muzzleloaders we have. This shoot is a place where we can all learn, and share knowledge about these rifles,,. From seeing different rifle builds to talking about loads, duplex and singles, from learning how to use you target turrents, to making drop charts, getting ideas for your next build to finding your next favorite bullet., It's all here. What better way to learn and share knowledge than among friends.
You do not need to be a competitive shooter to attend and have a great time. The shoot is set up more for teaching and learning than competition. We are simi-organized on the range, meaning there is no set coarse you have to shoot, you can shoot 5 shots or 50 shots in a day it's all up to you. We usually have a friendly competition for smallest group shooting from 100, 200 and 300 yards. We also have 25 steel gong targets set up from 100 to 350 yards. these gongs measured 4x4 inches up to 12x12 inches. We had a couple hundred dip cans filled with tannerite as fun targets that were placed from 50 to 340 yards,,, pick your can, make your shot, a hit was a positive thing.....Deadeye was the only one to hit a dip can at the 340 yard mark last year that I know of.. . We also had several practice targets set up for sighting in.
At the third shoot, Kyle and I are working on a moving target,, we are gathering parts and materials now so hopefully we can have it set up and the bugs worked out before the August shoot.
I am also adding two more concrete shooting benches just like the two that are already in place.. Soon there will be a roof over the benches and as we go along the range will keep improving.
There is plenty of room for tents and campers. I have running water with a portable (hot water) shower for anyone that wants to use it. The local motel is 12-14 miles away and the good stuff is in Georgetown KY about 30 miles from the range. We will have plenty of food for Friday evening and all day Saturday. Everyone should bring their own drinks. Any one wanting to bring a pop-up shelter, shooting bench, sand bags or front rest are welcome to bring it. We could also use a four wheeler or two for running and resetting targets
I will start a list of the people that have contacted me and are planning on attending.. listing their Doug's Board name, their real name and the city and state they live in so if any one wants to car-pool they can contact each other and make arrangements. I am only listing the city and state with that persons permission.
Cost of admission is $125.00 for first timers, $100.00 for returning attendees and $35.00 for non-shooters,, Bring your kids for FREE..... For more information please contact me via PM or e-mail.
Please send your admission fee to me as soon as you know you are attending so I have some (money) for making improvement and to get a good head count for the food. My address is as follows.

The address that you will want to plug into your GPS is:
2180 McDowell Rd.
Cynthiana, KY. 41031
Do a google earth map or map quest and make sure you are able to find this place. If you have any doubts call me ahead of time as I and probably you will not have cell service once you get close to the range. It would be a good idea to print off the directions so that if you do lose service you will still have a back-up.
McDowell Rd is a small ,almost one lane, road off of US 62. If you are traveling east, It turns left just after you cross the lickin river bridge in Claysville, Ky. If you are coming in from the west it will be the last road to your right, just before you cross the river bridge. If you map quest it from the north and the directions say to come from Brooksville, Ky. you will be traveling on Hwy 19. McDowell Rd. is a mile or two past Milford, KY and will turn to the Right. Always stay to your left and the range will be about 4 miles down on the right. You will not be able to miss the range. If you do miss McDowell Rd. no worries, Keep going on HWY 19 a few more miles and you will come to a stop sign, turn right and then turn right again, almost like making a big U-turn. This is McDowell Rd and then you will find the range on the left.
I will try to put up a marker at McDowell Rd. It will be a tobacco stick with yellow caution tape on it...... Check your route let me know if you have any questions.
Also for those of you who will be camping out for the weekend or for just one day. Bring everything you think you might need. Coolers and drinks will be of importance. There is a grocery store 2 miles from the shoot and they have everything you might want including ice cold drinks, hand made to order sandwiches, pizza, breakfast sandwiches and that kind of stuff. He's got just about everything except gunpowder......
I will have a hot water shower rigged up out side of the shop, just bring your own towels, soap, and some flippy flops shoes.
Any other questions just call. Thanks to all that have helped promote this.
Jeff.
